Chapter: What should someone who sneezes say first?

بَابُ كَيْفَ يَبْدَأُ الْعَاطِسُ

Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 933

Nafi' said that when 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar sneezed, they said to him, "May Allah have mercy on you," and Ibn 'Umar said, "May He have mercy on us and you. May He forgive us and you."


Grade: Sahih

سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ انہیں جب چھینک آتی اور ان سے یرحمک اللّٰہ کہا جاتا تو وہ فرماتے:اللہ ہم پر اور تم بھی رحم فرمائے اور ہمیں اور آپ کو بھی معاف فرما دے۔

Sayyidina Abdullah bin Umar ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se riwayat hai ki unhen jab chheenk aati aur un se Yarhamu kallah kaha jata to wo farmatey Allah hum par aur tum bhi reham farmaye aur hamen aur aap ko bhi maaf farma de.

حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ، عَنْ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا عَطَسَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ‏:‏ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ، فَقَالَ‏:‏ يَرْحَمُنَا اللَّهُ وَإِيَّاكُمْ، وَيَغْفِرُ لَنَا وَلَكُمْ‏.‏

Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 934

'Abdullah said, "When one of you sneezes, he should say, 'Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.' Let anyone responding to him say 'May Allah have mercy on you.' Then the person who sneezed should say'May Allah forgive me and you.'"

سیدنا عبداللہ بن مسعود رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے، انہوں نے فرمایا:جب تم میں سے کسی کو چھینک آئے تو وہ الحمد لله رب العالمین کہے اور جو جواب دے وہ یرحمك اللّٰہ کہے، پھر جسے چھینک آئی وہ کہے:یغفر اللّٰه لی ولکم اللہ تعالیٰ مجھے اور آپ کو بھی معاف کر دے۔

Syedna Abdullah bin Masood Raziallahu Anhu se riwayat hai, unhon ne farmaya: Jab tum mein se kisi ko chheenk aaye to woh Alhamdulillah Rabbul Aalameen kahe aur jo jawab de woh Yarhamuk Allah kahe, phir jise chheenk aai woh kahe: Yaghfirullah li walakum Allah Ta'ala mujhe aur aap ko bhi maaf kar de.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ قَالَ‏:‏ إِذَا عَطَسَ أَحَدُكُمْ فَلْيَقُلِ‏:‏ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ، وَلْيَقُلْ مَنْ يَرُدُّ‏:‏ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ، وَلْيَقُلْ هُوَ‏:‏ يَغْفِرُ اللَّهُ لِي وَلَكُمْ‏.‏

Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 935

Iyas ibn Salama related that his father said, "A man sneezed in the presence of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the Prophet said, 'May Allah have mercy on you.' Then the man sneezed again and the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said, 'This man has a cold.'"


Grade: Sahih

سیدنا سلمہ بن اکوع رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے، انہوں نے فرمایا کہ ایک آدمی کو نبی ﷺ کے پاس چھینک آئی تو آپ نے فرمایا:یَرْحَمک اللّٰہ اسے دوبارہ چھینک آئی تو نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا:’’اسے زکام ہے۔‘‘

Sayyidina Salmah bin Akwa RA se riwayat hai, unhon ne farmaya ki ek aadmi ko Nabi SAW ke paas chheenk aayi to aap ne farmaya: Yarhamukallah use dobara chheenk aayi to Nabi SAW ne farmaya: Use zukam hai.

حَدَّثَنَا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا عِكْرِمَةُ، قَالَ‏:‏ حَدَّثَنَا إِيَاسُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ‏:‏ عَطَسَ رَجُلٌ عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم فَقَالَ‏:‏ يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ، ثُمَّ عَطَسَ أُخْرَى، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم‏:‏ هَذَا مَزْكُومٌ‏.‏
