Jabir said, "The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, was ill and we prayed behind him while he was sitting down. Abu Bakr relayed his takbir to the people. The Prophet turned towards us and saw that we were standing. He indicated to us that we should sit down. So we prayed sitting down with him. When he said the taslim, he said, 'You were about to do what the Persians and Romans do. They stand in front of their kings when they are seated. Do not do that. Follow your Imams. If the Imam prays standing, then pray standing. If he prays sitting down, then pray sitting down."

سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی ﷺ بیمار ہوئے تو ہم نے آپ کے پیچھے نماز پڑھی جبکہ آپ بیٹھے ہوئے تھے اور ابوبکر لوگوں کو آپ کی تکبیرات پہنچا رہے تھے۔ آپ نے التفات فرمایا تو دیکھا کہ ہم کھڑے ہوکر نماز پڑھ رہے ہیں۔ آپ نے ہمیں بیٹھنے کا اشارہ فرمایا تو ہم بیٹھ گئے، پھر ہم نے بیٹھ کر آپ کی اقتدا میں نماز ادا کی۔ جب آپ نے سلام پھیرا تو فرمایا:’’فارس اور روم کی طرح تم لوگ نہ کرنے لگ جاؤ کہ وہ لوگ اپنے بادشاہوں کے سامنے کھڑے رہتے ہیں اور ان کے بادشاہ بیٹھے رہتے ہیں۔ ایسا مت کرو۔ اپنے ائمہ کی اقتدا کرو۔ اگر امام کھڑے ہوکر نماز اد اکرے تو تم بھی کھڑے ہوکر پڑھو اور اگر وہ بیٹھ کر پڑھے تو تم بھی بیٹھ کر پڑھو۔‘‘

Aap ne iltifat farmaya to dekha ki hum khde hokar namaz padh rahe hain. Aap ne humein baithne ka ishara farmaya to hum baith gaye, phir humne baith kar aap ki iqtida mein namaz ada ki. Jab aap ne salam phera to farmaya: ''Faris aur Room ki tarah tum log na karne lag jao ki woh log apne badshahon ke samne khde rehte hain aur unke badshah baithe rehte hain. Aisa mat karo. Apne aima ki iqtida karo. Agar imam khde hokar namaz ada kare to tum bhi khde hokar padho aur agar woh baith kar padhe to tum bhi baith kar padho.''
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ: اشْتَكَى النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، فَصَلَّيْنَا وَرَاءَهُ وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ يُسْمِعُ النَّاسَ تَكْبِيرَهُ، فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْنَا فَرَآنَا قِيَامًا، فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْنَا فَقَعَدْنَا، فَصَلَّيْنَا بِصَلاَتِهِ قُعُودًا، فَلَمَّا سَلَّمَ قَالَ: إِنْ كِدْتُمْ لَتَفْعَلُوا فِعْلَ فَارِسَ وَالرُّومِ، يَقُومُونَ عَلَى مُلُوكِهِمْ وَهُمْ قُعُودٌ، فَلاَ تَفْعَلُوا، ائْتَمُّوا بِأَئِمَّتِكُمْ، إِنْ صَلَّى قَائِمًا فَصَلُّوا قِيَامًا، وَإِنْ صَلَّى قَاعِدًا فَصَلُّوا قُعُودًا.
