Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that there was a man from the tribe of Thaqif, whose name was Maroof, and one of his eyes was blind. His real name was Zaheer bin 'Uthman. He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "The Walima (wedding feast) on the first day is a right, on the second day it is an act of goodness, and on the third day it is for fame and show off."

قتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ قبیلہ ثقیف میں معروف نام کے ایک صاحب تھے جن کی ایک آنکھ کام نہیں کرتی تھی ان کا اصل نام زہیر بن عثمان تھا وہ کہتے ہیں کہ نبی ﷺ نے ارشاد فرمایا ولیمہ برحق ہے دوسرے دن کھانا نیکی ہے اور تیسرے دن بھی کھلانا شہرت اور دکھلاوے کے لئے ہے۔
Qatadah razi Allah anhu kahte hain ki qabeela saqeef mein maroof naam ke ek sahab the jin ki ek aankh kaam nahin karti thi un ka asal naam zohair bin usman tha woh kahte hain ki nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne irshad farmaya walima bar haq hai doosre din khana neki hai aur teesre din bhi khilana shohrat aur dikhawe ke liye hai
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، عَنْ قَتَادَةَ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ الثَّقَفِيِّ ، أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَعْوَرَ مِنْ ثَقِيفٍ , قَالَ قَتَادَةُ: كَانَ يُقَالُ لَهُ مَعْرُوفٌ، أَيْ يُثْنَى عَلَيْهِ خَيْرًا، يُقَالُ لَهُ: زُهَيْرُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ , أَنّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: " الْوَلِيمَةُ حَقٌّ، وَالْيَوْمُ الثَّانِي مَعْرُوفٌ، وَالْيَوْمُ الثَّالِثُ سُمْعَةٌ وَرِيَاءٌ" .
