Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 10076
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once, in the presence of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the mention of a deceased man came up. People began to describe his good qualities and praise him. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "It has become obligatory." In the meantime, another man was mentioned, and people began to describe his bad qualities and condemn him. The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "It has become obligatory." Then he said, "You people are Allah's witnesses on earth."

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی کریم ﷺ کے سامنے ایک فوت شدہ آدمی کا تذکرہ ہوا لوگ اس کے عمدہ خصائل اور اس کی تعریف بیان کرنے لگے نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا واجب ہوگئی اسی اثناء میں ایک اور آدمی کا تذکرہ ہوا اور لوگوں نے اس کے برے خصائل اور اس کی مذمت بیان کی۔ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا واجب ہوگئی پھر فرمایا کہ تم لوگ زمین میں اللہ کے گواہ ہو۔
Hazrat Abu Huraira razi Allah anhu se marvi hai ki ek martaba Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke samne ek faut shuda aadmi ka tazkara hua log uske umda khasail aur us ki tareef bayan karne lage Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya wajib hogayi isi asna mein ek aur aadmi ka tazkara hua aur logon ne uske bure khasail aur us ki mazammat bayan ki. Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya wajib hogayi phir farmaya ki tum log zameen mein Allah ke gawaah ho.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ ، عَنْ عَامِرِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ ، عَنِ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذُكِرَ عِنْدَهُ رَجُلٌ مَاتَ، فَقَالُوا: خَيْرًا، وَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهِ خَيْرًا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" وَجَبَتْ"، وَذُكِرَ عِنْدَهُ رَجُلٌ آخَرُ، فَقَالُوا شَرًّا، وَأَثْنَوْا شَرًّا، فَقَالَ: النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" وَجَبَتْ"، قَالَ: " أَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ بَعْضُكُمْ عَلَى بَعْضٍ" .
