Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 10878
A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and asked, "O Messenger of Allah! Which deed is the most virtuous?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, "To believe in Allah and to strive in His cause." He asked, "What if I don't even have the strength for that?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Then protect yourself from evil and sinful deeds, for that is also an excellent charity that you will give from your side."

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک آدمی نے بارگاہ نبوت میں حاضر ہو کر سوال کیا کہ اے اللہ کے نبی! کون سا عمل سب سے افضل ہے؟ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا اللہ پر ایمان لانا اور اللہ کے راستہ میں جہاد کرنا اس نے پوچھا کہ اگر میں اس کی طاقت بھی نہ رکھتا ہوں تو؟ فرمایا پھر اپنے آپ کو شر اور گناہ کے کاموں سے بچا کر رکھو کیونکہ یہ بھی ایک عمدہ صدقہ ہے جو تم اپنی طرف سے دوگے۔
Hazrat Abu Huraira (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki aik aadmi ne bargah e nabuyat mein hazir ho kar sawal kiya ki aye Allah ke nabi! kon sa amal sab se afzal hai? Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya Allah per iman lana aur Allah ke rastay mein jihad karna usne poocha ki agar mein is ki taqat bhi nahi rakhta hun to? farmaya phir apne aap ko shar aur gunah ke kaamon se bacha kar rakho kyunki yeh bhi aik umdah sadaqah hai jo tum apni taraf se doge.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ , حَدَّثَنَا خَلِيفَةُ يَعْنِي بْنَ غَالِبٍ , حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيُّ , عَنْ أَبِيهِ , عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ , أَنَّ رَجُلًا أَتَى النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَيُّ الْأَعْمَالِ أَفْضَلُ؟ قَالَ: " الْإِيمَانُ بِاللَّهِ , وَالْجِهَادُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ" , قَالَ: فَإِنْ لَمْ أَسْتَطِعْ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ: تُعِينُ ضَائِعًا، أَوْ تَصْنَعُ لِأَخْرَقَ , فَإِنْ لَمْ أَسْتَطِعْ ذَلِكَ؟ قَالَ:" احْبِسْ نَفْسَكَ عَنِ الشَّرِّ , فَإِنَّهَا صَدَقَةٌ تَصَدَّقُ بِهَا عَلَى نَفْسِكَ" .
