Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 14590
It is narrated by Sayyidina Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) became ill. We prayed behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) while he was leading the prayer sitting down, and Sayyidina Abu Bakr was saying the takbeer (Allahu Akbar) loudly so that others could hear it. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked towards us with the corner of his eye and saw us standing. He gestured towards us and we also sat down and continued praying. After finishing the prayer, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "You were almost about to start doing what the Persians and Romans do. They stand before their kings while their kings remain seated. Do not do this, but rather follow your imams. If they pray standing, then pray standing. If they pray sitting, then pray sitting."

سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی ﷺ بیمار ہو گئے ہم نے نبی ﷺ کے پیچھے نماز پڑھی اس وقت آپ بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھا رہے تھے اور سیدنا صدیق اکبربلند آواز سے تکبیر کہہ کر دوسروں تک تکبیر کی آواز پہنچا رہے تھے نبی ﷺ نے کن اکھیوں سے ہماری طرف دیکھا تو ہم کھڑے ہوئے نظر آئے نبی ﷺ نے ہماری طرف اشارہ کیا اور ہم بھی بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھنے لگے اور بقیہ نماز اسی طرح ادا کی نماز سے فراغت کے بعد نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا: ابھی قریب تھا کہ تم فارس اور روم والوں جیسا کام کرنے لگتے وہ لوگ بھی اپنے بادشاہوں کے سامنے کھڑے رہتے ہیں اور بادشاہ بیٹھے رہتے ہیں تم لوگ ایسا نہ کیا کر و بلکہ اپنی ائمہ کی اقتدا کیا کر و اگر وہ کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھیں تو تم بھی کھڑے ہو کر نماز پڑھو اگر وہ بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھیں تو تم بھی بیٹھ کر نماز پڑھو۔
Sayyidna Jabir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki ek martaba Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) bimar ho gaye hum ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke peeche namaz padhi us waqt aap baith kar namaz padha rahe the aur Sayyidna Siddiq Akbar buland awaz se takbeer keh kar dusron tak takbeer ki awaz pahuncha rahe the Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne kon aankhon se hamari taraf dekha to hum kharay huye nazar aaye Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne hamari taraf ishara kiya aur hum bhi baith kar namaz padhne lage aur baqi namaz isi tarah ada ki namaz se faraghat ke baad Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya abhi qareeb tha ki tum Faris aur Rome walon jaisa kaam karne lagte woh log bhi apne badshahon ke samne kharay rehte hain aur badshah baithe rehte hain tum log aisa na kya karo balke apni aima ki iqtida kya karo agar woh kharay ho kar namaz padhen to tum bhi kharay ho kar namaz padho agar woh baith kar namaz padhen to tum bhi baith kar namaz padho.
حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، وَحُجَيْنٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ ، قَالَ: اشْتَكَى رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَصَلَّيْنَا وَرَاءَهُ وَهُوَ قَاعِدٌ، وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ يُكَبِّرُ يُسْمِعُ النَّاسَ تَكْبِيرَهُ، فَالْتَفَتَ إِلَيْنَا فَرَآنَا قِيَامًا، فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْنَا فَقَعَدْنَا فَصَلَّيْنَا بِصَلَاتِهِ قُعُودًا، فَلَمَّا صَلَّى، قَالَ:" إِنْ كِدْتُمْ آنِفًا تَفْعَلُونَ فِعْلَ فَارِسَ وَالرُّومِ، يَقُومُونَ عَلَى مُلُوكِهِمْ وَهُمْ قُعُودٌ، فَلَا تَفْعَلُوا، ائْتَمُّوا بِأَئِمَّتِكُمْ، إِنْ صَلَّى قَائِمًا، فَصَلُّوا قِيَامًا، وَإِنْ صَلَّى قَاعِدًا، فَصَلُّوا قُعُودًا".
