Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 15000
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that a slave came and pledged allegiance to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) for Hijrah. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not know that he was a slave. In the meantime, his master came there looking for him. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) bought him and set him free. From then onwards, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would not accept the pledge of allegiance from anyone until he had asked him whether he was a slave or a free man.

سیدنا جابر رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک غلام آیا اور نبی ﷺ سے ہجرت پر بیعت کر لی نبی ﷺ کو پتہ نہیں چلا تھا کہ یہ غلام ہے اتنے میں اس کا آقا اس کو تلاش کرتے ہوئے یہاں پر آگیا نبی ﷺ نے اسے خرید کر آزاد کر دیا اس وقت نبی ﷺ اس وقت سے لے کر تب تک بیعت نہیں لیتے تھے جب تک یہ نہ پوچھ لیں کہ وہ غلام ہے یا آزاد؟
Sayyidna Jabir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ki ek ghulam aaya aur Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se hijrat par bai't kar li Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko pata nahin chala tha ki yah ghulam hai itne mein iska aqa isko talash karte huye yahan par aagaya Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ise kharid kar azad kar diya us waqt Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) us waqt se le kar tab tak bai't nahin lete the jab tak yah na puchh len ki woh ghulam hai ya azad?.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَعِيدٍ مَوْلَى بَنِي هَاشِمٍ , حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ , حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الزُّبَيْرِ ، عَنْ جَابِرٍ , قَالَ:" جَاءَ عَبْدٌ إِلَى النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَبَايَعَهُ، فَجَاءَهُ مَوْلَاهُ فَعَرَّفَهُ , فَاشْتَرَاهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْهُ فَأَعْتَقَهُ، ثُمَّ لَمْ يَكُنْ يُبَايِعُ أَحَدًا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ حَتَّى يَسْأَلَهُ حُرٌّ أَوْ عَبْدٌ؟".
