The Hadith of Al-Bara' ibn Azib (may Allah be pleased with him)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 18508
It is narrated on the authority of Bara (may Allah be pleased with him) that when this verse of the Holy Quran was revealed in the beginning, "Those believers who sit (at home) and those who strive and fight in the way of Allah are not equal," the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) called Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) and ordered him to bring a shoulder bone and wrote this verse on it. Ibn Umm Maktum (may Allah be pleased with him) complained about his blindness, so the words "except those who are disabled" were further revealed in this verse.

حضرت براء رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ابتداء قرآن کریم کی یہ آیت نازل ہوئی کہ " مسلمانوں میں سے جو لوگ جہاد کے انتظار میں بیٹھے ہوئے ہیں وہ اور اللہ کے راستہ میں جہاد کرنے والے بھی برابر نہیں ہوسکتے " نبی کریم ﷺ نے حضرت زید رضی اللہ عنہ کو بلا کر حکم دیا وہ شانے کی ایک ہڈی لے آئے اور اس پر یہ آیت لکھ دی، اس پر حضرت ابن ام مکتوم رضی اللہ عنہ نے اپنے نابینا ہونے کی شکایت کی تو اس آیت میں " غیراولیٰ الضرر " کا لفظ مزید نازل ہوا۔
Hazrat Bara RA se marvi hai keh ibteda Quran Kareem ki yeh ayat nazil hui keh "Musalmanon mein se jo log jihad ke intezar mein baithe hue hain woh aur Allah ke rastay mein jihad karne wale bhi barabar nahi ho sakte" Nabi Kareem SAW ne Hazrat Zaid RA ko bula kar hukm diya woh shane ki ek haddi le aaye aur is par yeh ayat likh di, is par Hazrat Ibn Umme Maktum RA ne apne nabina hone ki shikayat ki to is ayat mein "Ghair uli alzarar" ka lafz mazeed nazil hua.
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنِ الْبَرَاءِ ، قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ: لَا يَسْتَوِي الْقَاعِدُونَ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُجَاهِدُونَ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، دَعَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ زَيْدًا، فَجَاءَ بِكَتِفٍ، فَكَتَبَهَا، قَالَ: فَجَاءَ ابْنُ أُمِّ مَكْتُومٍ، فَشَكَا ضَرَارَتَهُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، " فَنَزَلَتْ غَيْرُ أُولِي الضَّرَرِ سورة النساء آية 95" .
