Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 18822
It is narrated by a companion, may Allah be pleased with him, that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade cupping and fasting continuously (without breaking the fast at night) but did not declare it forbidden so that it would remain permissible for the companions. Someone asked, "O Messenger of Allah! You yourself fast continuously?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "If I were to do that, my Lord would feed me and give me drink."

ایک صحابی رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے سینگی لگوانے اور صوم وصال سے منع فرمایا ہے لیکن اسے حرام قرار نہیں دیا تاکہ صحابہ کے لئے اس کی اجازت باقی رہے کسی نے پوچھا یا رسول اللہ! آپ خود تو صوم وصال فرماتے ہیں؟ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا اگر میں ایسا کرتا ہوں تو مجھے میرا رب کھلاتا اور پلاتا ہے۔
aik sahabi razi allaho anho se marvi hai ke nabi kareem sallallaho alaihi wasallam ne seengi lagwane aur soum wisal se mana farmaya hai lekin ise haram karar nahi diya taake sahaba ke liye iski ijazat baqi rahe kisi ne poocha ya rasool allah aap khud to soum wisal farmate hain nabi kareem sallallaho alaihi wasallam ne farmaya agar main aisa karta hun to mujhe mera rab khilata aur pilata hai
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ سُفْيَانَ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَابِسٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنِ الْحِجَامَةِ وَالْمُوَاصَلَةِ وَلَمْ يُحَرِّمْهَا إِبْقَاءً عَلَى أَصْحَابِهِ، فَقِيلَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّكَ تُوَاصِلُ إِلَى السَّحَرِ؟ فَقَالَ: " إِنْ أُوَاصِلُ إِلَى السَّحَرِ، فَرَبِّي يُطْعِمُنِي وَيَسْقِينِي" .
