The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 1918
Narrated by Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): I prayed eight rak'ahs (Dhuhr and Asr) together with the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), and seven rak'ahs (Maghrib and Isha') together. The narrator said: I asked him: O Abu Al-Sha'tha'! I think the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed Dhuhr at the end of its time and Asr at the beginning of its time, and likewise Maghrib at the end of its time and Isha' at the beginning of its time? (He called this joining the prayers), so he replied: I think so too.

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ میں نے نبی ﷺ کے ساتھ (ظہر اور عصر کی) آٹھ رکعتیں اکٹھی پڑھی ہیں اور (مغرب و عشاء کی) سات رکعتیں بھی اکٹھی پڑھی ہیں، راوی کہتے ہیں کہ میں نے ان سے پوچھا: اے ابوالشعثاء! میرا خیال ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے ظہر کی نماز کو اس کے آخر وقت میں اور عصر کو اس کے اول وقت میں، اسی طرح مغرب کو اس کے آخر وقت میں اور عشاء کو اول وقت میں پڑھ لیا ہوگا؟ (اسی کو انہوں نے جمع بین الصلاتین سے تعبیر کر دیا)، تو انہوں نے جواب دیا کہ میرا خیال بھی یہی ہے۔
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki maine Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke sath (Zuhr aur Asr ki) aath rakatain ikatthi parhi hain aur (Maghrib o Isha ki) saat rakatain bhi ikatthi parhi hain, ravi kehte hain ki maine unse pucha: Aye Abul Sha'sa! mera khayal hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Zuhr ki namaz ko uske akhir waqt mein aur Asr ko uske awwal waqt mein, isi tarah Maghrib ko uske akhir waqt mein aur Isha ko awwal waqt mein parh liya hoga? (isi ko unhon ne jam'a bain as-salatain se tabeer kar diya), to unhon ne jawab diya ki mera khayal bhi yahi hai.
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، قَالَ عَمْرٌو : أَخْبَرَنِي جَابِرُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ ، أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ ، يَقُولُ:" صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ثَمَانِيًا جَمِيعًا، وَسَبْعًا جَمِيعًا، قَالَ: قُلْتُ لَهُ: يَا أَبَا الشَّعْثَاءِ، أَظُنُّهُ أَخَّرَ الظُّهْرَ، وَعَجَّلَ الْعَصْرَ، وَأَخَّرَ الْمَغْرِبَ، وَعَجَّلَ الْعِشَاءَ، قَالَ: وَأَنَا أَظُنَّ ذَلِكَ".
