The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 1926
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) delayed the Isha prayer so much that a considerable part of the night had passed by the will of Allah. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came and submitted: "O Messenger of Allah! The women and children have already fallen asleep." Upon this, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came out and said: "If I were not afraid of burdening my Ummah, I would have commanded them to offer the Isha prayer at this time."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے ایک مرتبہ عشاء کی نماز کو اتنا مؤخر کیا کہ رات کا کافی حصہ اللہ کی مشیت کے مطابق بیت گیا، سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ نے آ کر عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! عورتیں اور بچے تو یوں ہی سو گئے، اس پر نبی ﷺ باہر تشریف لائے اور فرمایا کہ ”اگر مجھے اپنی امت پر مشقت کا اندیشہ نہ ہوتا تو میں انہیں یہ حکم دیتا کہ وہ عشاء کی نماز اسی وقت پڑھا کریں۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas Raziallahu Anhuma se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne ek martaba Isha ki namaz ko itna moakhir kya ki raat ka kaafi hissa Allah ki mashiyat ke mutabiq beet gaya, Sayyidna Umar Raziallahu Anhu ne aa kar arz kiya: Ya Rasulullah! Aurtein aur bacche to yun hi so gaye, is par Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) bahar tashreef laaye aur farmaya ki “Agar mujhe apni ummat par mushkil ka andesha na hota to main unhen ye hukum deta ki woh Isha ki namaz isi waqt parrha karein.”
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو ، عَنْ عَطَاءٍ وَابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ , عَنْ عَطَاءٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَخَّرَهَا، حَتَّى ذَهَبَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ، فَقَالَ عُمَرُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، نَامَ النِّسَاءُ وَالْوِلْدَانُ، فَخَرَجَ، فَقَالَ:" لَوْلَا أَنْ أَشُقَّ عَلَى أُمَّتِي، لَأَمَرْتُهُمْ أَنْ يُصَلُّوهَا هَذِهِ السَّاعَةَ".
