Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 19386
Adi narrates that I once asked in the blessed gathering, "O Messenger of Allah! My father used to maintain ties of kinship and used to do such and such good deeds." The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, "Your father had one aim ('reputation'/'fame') and he achieved it."

حضرت عدی سے مروی ہے کہ ایک میں نے بارگارہ رسالت میں عرض کیا یا رسول اللہ! میرے والد صاحب صلہ رحمی اور فلاں فلاں کام کرتے تھے نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ تمہارے باپ کا ایک مقصد (شہرت ') تھا جو اس نے پالیا
Hazrat Adi se marvi hai keh aik mein ne bargah risalat mein arz kiya Ya Rasul Allah mere walid sahib sila rehmi aur falan falan kaam karte thay Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya keh tumhare baap ka aik maqsad shohrat tha jo us ne pa liya
حَدَّثَنَا مُؤَمَّلٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ ، عَنْ مُرَيِّ ابْنِ قَطَرِيٍّ ، عَنْ عَدِيِّ بْنِ حَاتِمٍ ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّ أَبِي كَانَ يَصِلُ الرَّحِمَ، وَيَفْعَلُ وَيَفْعَلُ، فَهَلْ لَهُ فِي ذَلِكَ؟ يَعْنِي مِنْ أَجْرٍ، قَالَ: " إِنَّ أَبَاكَ طَلَبَ أَمْرًا، فَأَصَابَهُ" .
