The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 1998
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would observe fasts continuously to the extent that we would say that he would never break his fast. And sometimes he would abstain from fasting continuously to the extent that we would say that he would never fast. And since the time the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had graced Medina with his presence, you (peace and blessings of Allah be upon you) have not fasted for a complete month except for the month of Ramadan.

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ بعض اوقات نبی ﷺ اس تسلسل کے ساتھ روزے رکھتے تھے کہ ہم لوگ کہتے تھے کہ اب نبی ﷺ کوئی روزہ نہیں چھوڑیں گے، اور بعض اوقات اس تسلسل سے افطار فرماتے تھے کہ ہم کہتے تھے کہ نبی ﷺ کوئی روزہ نہیں رکھیں گے، اور جب سے نبی ﷺ مدینہ منورہ میں رونق افروز ہوئے تھے، اس وقت سے آپ ﷺ نے ماہ رمضان کے علاوہ کسی پورے مہینے کے روزے نہیں رکھے تھے۔
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki baaz auqat Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) is tasalsul ke sath roze rakhte the ki hum log kahte the ki ab Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) koi roza nahi chhodenge, aur baaz auqat is tasalsul se iftar farmate the ki hum kahte the ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) koi roza nahi rakhenge, aur jab se Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) Madina Munawwara mein ronak afroz hue the, us waqt se aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne mah Ramadan ke ilawa kisi pure mahine ke roze nahi rakhe the.
حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى ، عَنْ شُعْبَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ: لَا يُفْطِرُ، وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ: لَا يَصُومُ، وَمَا صَامَ شَهْرًا تَامًّا مُنْذُ قَدِمَ الْمَدِينَةَ إِلَّا رَمَضَانَ".
