Hadith of Ma'qil ibn Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 20315
Hasan said: Once, Ma'qal fell ill, and his illness left him frail. Ibn Ziyad came to visit him. Ma'qal said, "I will narrate to you a hadith that I heard from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Whoever is entrusted with the responsibility of people and does not look after them with kindness will not even smell the fragrance of Paradise, even though the fragrance of Paradise can be smelled from a distance of a hundred years." Ibn Ziyad then said, "Why didn't you narrate this hadith to me before?" Ma'qal replied, "If I had not seen you in this position, I would not have narrated this hadith to you."

حسن کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ حضرت معقل بیمار ہوگئے اور بیماری نے انہیں نڈھال کردیا ابن زیاد ان کی عیادت کے لئے آیا انہوں نے فرمایا میں تم سے ایک حدیث بیان کرتا ہوں جو میں نے نبی ﷺ سے سنی ہے جو شخص کسی رعایا کا ذمہ دار بنے اور خیرخواہی سے ان کا احاطہ نہ کرے وہ جنت کی مہک بھی نہ پاسکے گا۔ حالانکہ جنت کی مہک سو سال کے فاصلے سے بھی محسوس کی جاسکتی ہے تو ابن زیاد نے کہا آپ نے یہ حدیث اس سے پہلے کیوں نہ بیان کی انہوں نے فرمایا اگر میں تمہیں اس عہدے پر نہ دیکھتا تو تم سے یہ حدیث بیان نہ کرتا۔
Hasan kehte hain ke ek martaba Hazrat Maqal bimar hogaye aur bimari ne unhen nidhaal kardiya Ibn Ziad un ki ayadat ke liye aaya unhon ne farmaya main tum se ek hadees bayaan karta hun jo main ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se suni hai jo shaks kisi raaya ka zimmedar bane aur khair khwahi se un ka ihata na kare woh jannat ki mahak bhi na paasake ga halanki jannat ki mahak so saal ke faasle se bhi mehsoos ki jaaskati hai to Ibn Ziad ne kaha aap ne ye hadees is se pehle kyun na bayaan ki unhon ne farmaya agar main tumhen is uhde par na dekhta to tum se ye hadees bayaan na karta.
حَدَّثَنَا هَوْذَةُ بْنُ خَلِيفَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا عَوْفٌ ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ ، قَالَ: مَرِضَ مَعْقِلُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ مَرَضًا ثَقُلَ فِيهِ، فَأَتَاهُ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ يَعُودُهُ، فَقَالَ: إِنِّي مُحَدِّثُكَ حَدِيثًا سَمِعْتُهُ مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: " مَنْ اسْتُرْعِيَ رَعِيَّةً، فَلَمْ يُحِطْهُمْ بِنَصِيحَةٍ، لَمْ يَجِدْ رِيحَ الْجَنَّةِ، وَرِيحُهَا يُوجَدُ مِنْ مَسِيرَةِ مِئَةِ عَامٍ" , فقَالَ ابْنُ زِيَادٍ: أَلَا كُنْتَ حَدَّثْتَنِي بِهَذَا قَبْلَ الْآنَ؟! قَالَ: وَالْآنَ لَوْلَا الَّذِي أَنْتَ عَلَيْهِ لَمْ أُحَدِّثْكَ بِهِ.
