The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2116
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were present, and the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also arrived and said, "Shall I not tell you about the person who has the best and highest rank among the people?" The people said: "Why not, O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "The one who holds the reins of his horse and has gone out in the way of Allah until he dies or is martyred." Then he said, "Shall I tell you about the one after him?" The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "The one who lives alone in a valley, prays, pays Zakat, and avoids evil people. Shall I not tell you about the person who occupies the worst place?" The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said: "Yes, O Messenger of Allah!" He said, "The one who begs from someone in the name of Allah and gets nothing."

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہم تشریف فرما تھے، نبی ﷺ بھی تشریف لے آئے اور فرمانے لگے کہ ”کیا میں تمہیں یہ نہ بتاؤں کہ لوگوں میں سب سے بہتر مقام و مرتبہ کس شخص کا ہے؟“ لوگوں نے کہا: کیوں نہیں، یا رسول اللہ! فرمایا: ”وہ شخص جس نے اپنے گھوڑے کا سر تھام رکھا ہو اور اللہ کے راستہ میں نکلا ہوا ہو تاآنکہ فوت ہو جائے یا شہید ہو جائے۔“ پھر فرمایا: ”اس کے بعد والے آدمی کا پتہ بتاؤں؟“ صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہم نے عرض کیا: جی یا رسول اللہ! فرمایا: ”وہ آدمی جو ایک گھاٹی میں الگ تھلگ رہتا ہو، نماز پڑھتا ہو، زکوٰۃ ادا کرتا ہو اور برے لوگوں سے بچتا ہو، کیا میں تمہیں اس شخص کے بارے میں نہ بتاؤں جو سب سے بدترین مقام کا حامل ہے؟“ صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہم نے عرض کیا: جی یا رسول اللہ! فرمایا: ”وہ شخص جو اللہ کے نام پر کسی سے مانگے اور اسے کچھ نہ ملے۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki ek martaba Sahaba Kiram (رضي الله تعالى عنه) tashreef farma thay, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) bhi tashreef le aaye aur farmane lage ki “kia mein tumhen ye na bataun ki logon mein sab se behtar maqam o martaba kis shakhs ka hai?” Logon ne kaha: kyun nahi, ya Rasulullah! Farmaya: “wo shakhs jisne apne ghore ka sir tham rakha ho aur Allah ke raaste mein nikla hua ho ta-aanke faut ho jaye ya shaheed ho jaye.” Phir farmaya: “is ke baad wale aadmi ka pata bataun?” Sahaba Kiram (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne arz kiya: ji ya Rasulullah! Farmaya: “wo aadmi jo ek ghati mein alag thalag rehta ho, namaz parhta ho, zakat ada karta ho aur bure logon se bachta ho, kya mein tumhen is shakhs ke bare mein na bataun jo sab se badtareen maqam ka hamil hai?” Sahaba Kiram (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne arz kiya: ji ya Rasulullah! Farmaya: “wo shakhs jo Allah ke naam par kisi se mange aur use kuch na mile.”
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ ، عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ ذُؤَيْبٍ ، عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَهُمْ جُلُوسٌ، فَقَالَ:" أَلَا أُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِخَيْرِ النَّاسِ مَنْزِلَةً" , قَالُوا: بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , قَالَ:" رَجُلٌ مُمْسِكٌ بِعِنَانِ فَرَسِهِ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ، حَتَّى يَمُوتَ أَوْ يُقْتَل، أَفَأُخْبِرُكُمْ بِالَّذِي يَلِيهِ؟" , قَالُوا: نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , قَالَ:" امْرُؤٌ مُعْتَزِلٌ فِي شِعْبٍ , يُقِيمُ الصَّلَاة، وَيُؤْتِي الزَّكَاةَ، وَيَعْتَزِلُ شُرُورَ النَّاسِ، أَفَأُخْبِرُكُمْ بِشَرِّ النَّاسِ مَنْزِلَةً؟" , قَالُوا: نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , قَالَ:" الَّذِي يُسْأَلُ بِاللَّهِ وَلَا يُعْطِي بِهِ".
