Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 21630
It is narrated by Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) set out for the Battle of Uhud, some people from the army returned from the way. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) were divided into two groups regarding them. One group was of the opinion that they should be killed, while the second group said no. Upon this, this verse was revealed, "What is the matter with you that you are divided into two parties about the hypocrites?" And the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Medina is Taybah (pure). It removes its impurities just as fire removes the dross of silver."

حضرت زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ غزوہ احد کے لئے روانہ ہوئے تو لشکر کے کچھ لوگ راستے ہی سے واپس آگئے صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہم ان کے بارے میں دو گروہ ہوگئے، ایک گروہ کی رائے یہ تھی کہ انہیں قتل کردیا جائے اور گروہ ثانی کہتا تھا نہیں اس پر یہ آیت نازل ہوئی کہ " تمہیں کیا ہوگیا ہے کہ تم منافقین کے بارے میں دو گروہ ہوگئے اور نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا مدینہ طیبہ ہے یہ گندگی کو اسی طرح دور کردیتا ہے جیسے آگ چاندی کے میل کچیل کو دور کردیتی ہے۔
Hazrat Zaid bin Sabit razi Allah anhu se marvi hai ki Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) Ghazwa Uhud ke liye rawana hue to lashkar ke kuch log raaste hi se wapas aa gaye Sahaba kiram razi Allah anhum unke bare mein do group ho gaye, ek group ki rai ye thi ki unhen qatal kar diya jaye aur group sani kehta tha nahin is par ye ayat nazil hui ki "Tumhen kya ho gaya hai ki tum munafiqeen ke bare mein do group ho gaye aur Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya Madina Tayyiba hai ye gandegi ko isi tarah door karta hai jaise aag chandi ke mail kacheel ko door karti hai.
حَدَّثَنَا بَهْزٌ ، حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ ، قَالَ عَدِيُّ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ : أَخْبَرَنِي، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ خَرَجَ إِلَى أُحُدٍ فَرَجَعَ أُنَاسٌ خَرَجُوا مَعَهُ، فَكَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِيهِمْ فِرْقَتَانِ، فِرْقَةٌ تَقُولُ بِقَتْلِهِمْ، وَفِرْقَةٌ تَقُولُ لَا، وَقَالَ ابْنُ جَعْفَرٍ: فَكَانَ النَّاسُ فِيهِمْ فِرْقَتَيْنِ، فَرِيقًا يَقُولُونَ: بِقَتْلِهِمْ، وَفَرِيقًا يَقُولُونَ: لَا، قَالَ بَهْزٌ: فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فَمَا لَكُمْ فِي الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِئَتَيْنِ سورة النساء آية 88، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " إِنَّهَا طَيْبَةُ، وَإِنَّهَا تَنْفِي الْخَبَثَ، كَمَا تَنْفِي النَّارُ خَبَثَ الْفِضَّةِ"، حَدَّثَنَاه عَفَّانُ، وَقَالَ: فِيهِ سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ يَزِيدَ، فَذَكَرَ مَعْنَى حَدِيثِ بَهْزٍ .
