Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 21644
It is narrated on the authority of Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent a messenger to me on the occasion of Yamamah and summoned me. When I arrived, Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) was also sitting there. Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me, "O Zaid bin Thabit! You are an intelligent young man, and we do not accuse you of anything. You used to write the revelation during the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), so search for the Quran and compile it in one place." Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "By Allah! If these people had ordered me to move a mountain from its place, it would not have been heavier for me than this order to compile the Quran." I said to them, "Do you intend to do what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not do?" Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, "By Allah! There is good in it." Then he kept insisting on me until Allah expanded my chest for this work, just as He had expanded the chests of Siddiq Akbar (may Allah be pleased with him) and Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him).

حضرت زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ سیدنا صدیق اکبر رضی اللہ عنہ نے میرے پاس یمامہ کے موقع پر ایک قاصد کو بھیج کر مجھے بلایا، میں حاضر ہوا تو وہاں حضرت عمر فاروق رضی اللہ عنہ بھی بیٹھے ہوئے تھے، حضرت صدیق اکبر رضی اللہ عنہ نے مجھ سے فرمایا اے زید بن ثابت! آپ ایک سمجھدار نوجوان ہو، ہم آپ پر کوئی تہمت نہیں لگاتے، آپ نبی کریم ﷺ کے دور میں وحی لکھا کرتے تھے، آپ قرآن کریم کو تلاش کر کے ایک جگہ اکٹھا کردو زید رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ بخدا! اگر یہ لوگ مجھے کسی پہاڑ کو اس کی جگہ سے ہٹانے کا حکم دیتے تو وہ میرے لئے جمع قرآن کے اس حکم سے زیادہ وزنی نہ ہوتا، میں نے ان سے عرض کیا کہ آپ حضرات وہ کام کرنا چاہتے ہیں جو نبی کریم ﷺ نے نہیں کیا؟ حضرت صدیق اکبر رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا بخدا! اسی میں خیر ہے پھر وہ مجھے مسلسل کہتے رہے یہاں تک کہ اللہ نے مجھے بھی اس کام پر شرح صدر عطاء فرما دیا جس پر حضرت صدیق اکبر رضی اللہ عنہ اور فاروق اعظم رضی اللہ عنہ کو شرح صدر ہوا تھا۔
Hazrat Zaid bin Sabit Raziallahu Anhu se marvi hai ki Sayyiduna Sadiq Akbar Raziallahu Anhu ne mere pas Yamama ke mauqe par ek qasid ko bhej kar mujhe bulaya, main hazir hua to wahan Hazrat Umar Farooq Raziallahu Anhu bhi baithe huye the, Hazrat Sadiq Akbar Raziallahu Anhu ne mujh se farmaya aye Zaid bin Sabit! Aap ek samajhdaar naujawan ho, hum aap par koi tohmat nahin lagate, aap Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke daur mein wahy likha karte the, aap Quran Kareem ko talash kar ke ek jagah ikatha karo Zaid Raziallahu Anhu kahte hain ki Khuda! Agar yeh log mujhe kisi pahari ko uski jagah se hatane ka hukm dete to woh mere liye jama Quran ke is hukm se zyada wazni na hota, maine unse arz kiya ki aap hazrat woh kaam karna chahte hain jo Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne nahin kiya? Hazrat Sadiq Akbar Raziallahu Anhu ne farmaya Khuda! Isi mein khair hai phir woh mujhe musalsal kahte rahe yahan tak ki Allah ne mujhe bhi is kaam par sharah sadar ataa farma diya jis par Hazrat Sadiq Akbar Raziallahu Anhu aur Farooq Azam Raziallahu Anhu ko sharah sadar hua tha.
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ شِهَابٍ ، عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ السَّبَّاقِ ، عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ ، قَالَ: أَرْسَلَ إِلَيَّ أَبُو بَكْرٍ مَقْتَلَ الْيَمَامَةِ، فَإِذَا عُمَرُ عِنْدَهُ جَالِسٌ، قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ:" يَا زَيْدُ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ، إِنَّكَ غُلَامٌ شَابٌّ عَاقِلٌ، لَا نَتَّهِمُكَ، قَدْ كُنْتَ تَكْتُبُ الْوَحْيَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَتَتَبَّعْ الْقُرْآنَ، فَاجْمَعْهُ"، قَالَ زَيْدٌ فَوَاللَّهِ لَوْ كَلَّفُونِي نَقْلَ جَبَلٍ مِنَ الْجِبَالِ، مَا كَانَ أَثْقَلَ عَلَيَّ مِمَّا أَمَرَنِي بِهِ مِنْ جَمْعِ الْقُرْآنِ، فَقُلْتُ: أَتَفْعَلَانِ شَيْئًا لَمْ يَفْعَلْهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ! قَالَ: " هُوَ وَاللَّهِ خَيْرٌ، فَلَمْ يَزَلْ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يُرَاجِعُنِي حَتَّى شَرَحَ اللَّهُ صَدْرِي بِالَّذِي شَرَحَ لَهُ صَدْرَ أَبِي بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا" .
