Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 21792
Zabran says that once a group of Quraysh passed by Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him). They were all together. They sent their two slaves to Zaid bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask what is meant by "Salat al-Wusta" (the middle prayer). He said it refers to the Asr prayer. Then two men stood up and asked the same question, so he said that it refers to the Zuhr prayer. Then both of them went to Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with him) and asked him the same question, so he also said the Zuhr prayer and said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to pray the Zuhr prayer in the midday heat and there used to be only one or two rows behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and people used to be busy in taking a nap or in trade. Thereupon, Allah, the Exalted, revealed this verse: "Guard strictly (five obligatory) As-Salawat (the prayers) especially the middle Salat (the prayer) ('Asr). And stand before Allah with obedience (and do not speak to anybody during the Salat (prayers))." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "People should refrain from this act, otherwise I will burn their houses."

زبرقان کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ قریش کا ایک گروہ حضرت زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس سے گذرا وہ سب لوگ اکٹھے تھے انہوں نے اپنے دو غلاموں کو حضرت زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس یہ پوچھنے کے لئے بھیجا کہ " صلوٰۃ وسطی " سے کیا مراد ہے؟ انہوں نے فرمایا عصر کی نماز مراد ہے پھر دو آدمی کھڑے ہوئے اور انہوں نے یہی سوال پوچھا تو فرمایا کہ اس سے مراد ظہر کی نماز ہے، پھر وہ دونوں حضرت اسامہ بن زید رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس گئے اور ان سے یہی سوال پوچھا تو انہوں نے بھی ظہر کی نماز بتایا اور فرمایا کہ نبی کریم ﷺ ظہر کی نماز دوپہر کی گرمی میں پڑھا کرتے تھے اور نبی کریم ﷺ کے پیچھے صرف ایک یا دو صفیں ہوتی تھیں اور لوگ قیلولہ یا تجارت میں مصروف ہوتے تھے اس پر اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت نازل فرمائی " تمام نمازوں کی عموماً اور درمیانی نماز کی خصوصاً پابندی کیا کرو اور اللہ کے سامنے عاجزی سے کھڑے رہا کرو " پھر نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا لوگ اس حرکت سے باز آجائیں ورنہ میں ان کے گھروں کو آگ لگا دوں گا۔
Zabarqan kehte hain ki ek martaba Quresh ka ek giroh Hazrat Zaid bin Sabit (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke paas se guzara woh sab log ikatthey thay unhon ne apne do ghulamon ko Hazrat Zaid bin Sabit (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke paas yeh poochhne ke liye bheja ki "Salatul Wusta" se kya muraad hai? Unhon ne farmaya Asar ki namaz muraad hai phir do aadmi kharay huay aur unhon ne yahi sawal poocha to farmaya ki is se muraad Zuhar ki namaz hai, phir woh donon Hazrat Usama bin Zaid (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke paas gaye aur un se yahi sawal poocha to unhon ne bhi Zuhar ki namaz bataya aur farmaya ki Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) Zuhar ki namaz dopahar ki garmi mein parha karte thay aur Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke peeche sirf ek ya do safein hoti thin aur log qailaula ya tijarat mein masroof hote thay is par Allah Ta'ala ne yeh ayat nazil farmai "Tamam namazon ki umuman aur darmiyani namaz ki khusosan pabandi kya karo aur Allah ke samne aajzi se kharay raha karo" phir Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya log is harkat se baaz aa jayen warna mein un ke gharon ko aag laga doonga.
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ , حدَّثَنَا ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ , عَنِ الزِّبْرِقَانِ , أَنَّ رَهْطًا مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ مَرَّ بِهِمْ زَيْدُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ وَهُمْ مُجْتَمِعُونَ , فَأَرْسَلُوا إِلَيْهِ غُلَامَيْنِ لَهُمْ يَسْأَلَانِهِ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ الْوُسْطَى , فَقَالَ: هِيَ الْعَصْرُ , فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ رَجُلَانِ مِنْهُمْ فَسَأَلَاهُ , فَقَالَ: هِيَ الظُّهْرُ , ثُمَّ انْصَرَفَا إِلَى أُسَامَةَ بْنِ زَيْدٍ فَسَأَلَاهُ , فَقَالَ: هِيَ الظُّهْرُ , إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يُصَلِّي الظُّهْرَ بِالْهَجِيرِ , وَلَا يَكُونُ وَرَاءَهُ إِلَّا الصَّفُّ , وَالصَّفَّانِ مِنَ النَّاسِ فِي قَائِلَتِهِمْ , وَفِي تِجَارَتِهِمْ , فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ تَعَالَى: حَافِظُوا عَلَى الصَّلَوَاتِ وَالصَّلاةِ الْوُسْطَى وَقُومُوا لِلَّهِ قَانِتِينَ سورة البقرة آية 238 قَالَ: فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " لَيَنْتَهِيَنَّ رِجَالٌ أَوْ لَأُحَرِّقَنَّ بُيُوتَهُمْ" .
