The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2181
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that once a person asked the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him): "O Messenger of Allah! Why has Jibril (peace be upon him) delayed so long in coming to you this time?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied, "Why should he not delay when you people do not use the miswak, do not cut your nails, do not trim your mustaches, and do not clean the roots of your fingers?"

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ کسی نے نبی ﷺ سے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! جبرئیل امین علیہ السلام نے آپ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہونے میں اس دفعہ بڑی تاخیر کر دی؟ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ ”وہ تاخیر کیوں نہ کریں جبکہ میرے ارد گرد تم لوگ مسواک نہیں کرتے، اپنے ناخن نہیں کاٹتے، اپنی مونچھیں نہیں تراشتے، اور اپنی انگلیوں کی جڑوں کو صاف نہیں کرتے۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas Raziallahu Anhuma se marvi hai ki aik martaba kisi ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se arz kiya: Ya Rasool Allah! Jibraeel Amin Alaihissalam ne aap ki khidmat mein hazir hone mein is dafa badi takheer kar di? Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya ki "Woh takheer kyon na karen jabke mere ird gird tum log miswak nahin karte, apne nakhun nahin katte, apni moonchhen nahin tarashte, aur apni ungliyon ki jaron ko saaf nahin karte.".
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ عَيَّاشٍ ، عَنْ ثَعْلَبَةَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ الْخَثْعَمِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي كَعْبٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، أَنَّهُ قِيلَ لَهُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، لَقَدْ أَبْطَأَ عَنْكَ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَام , فَقَالَ:" وَلِمَ لَا يُبْطِئُ عَنِّي، وَأَنْتُمْ حَوْلِي لَا تَسْتَنُّونَ، وَلَا تُقَلِّمُونَ أَظْفَارَكُمْ، وَلَا تَقُصُّونَ شَوَارِبَكُمْ، وَلَا تُنَقُّونَ رَوَاجِبَكُمْ".
