The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2271
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) did not intentionally recite the Holy Quran to the jinn, nor did he see them. What actually happened was that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) went to the famous market of 'Ukaz with some of his noble companions (may Allah be pleased with them). By that time, a barrier had been erected between the devils and the news of the heavens, and shooting stars were being thrown at them. The devils returned to their people, distressed, and their people asked them, "What happened to you?" They replied, "A barrier has been erected between us and the news of the heavens, and shooting stars are being thrown at us." Their people said, "Something new must have happened. Spread out in the east and the west and find out what is it that has caused this barrier between you and the news of the heavens." So, they spread out in the east and the west to find out the reason. Among them were some devils who went towards Tihamah. On their way back, they passed by the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). At that time, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), intending to go to the market of 'Ukaz, was leading the Fajr prayer to his companions (may Allah be pleased with them) in a garden. When the sound of the Holy Quran reached their ears, they started listening to it attentively and said, "This is the thing that has caused a barrier between you and the news of the heavens." Then, when they returned to their people, they said, "O our people! We have heard a wondrous Quran that guides to the right path, and we have believed in it." Upon this, Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "Say (O Muhammad SAW): "It has been revealed to me that..." (Al-Jinn: 1) As if the revelation to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was based solely on the saying of the jinn.

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے بالارادہ جنات کو قران کریم کی تلاوت نہیں سنائی تھی اور نہ ہی انہیں دیکھا تھا، اصل میں ہوا یوں تھا کہ نبی ﷺ اپنے چند صحابہ کرام رضوان اللہ علیہم کے ساتھ عکاظ نامی مشہور بازار تشریف لے گئے تھے، اس وقت تک شیاطین اور آسمانی خبروں کے درمیان رکاوٹ حائل ہو چکی تھی، اور ان پر شہاب ثاقب پھینکے جانے لگے تھے، شیاطین پریشان ہو کر اپنی قوم میں واپس آئے تو قوم نے ان سے پوچھا کہ تمہیں کیا ہوا؟ انہوں نے جواب دیا کہ ہمارے اور آسمانی خبروں کے درمیان رکاوٹیں حائل ہو گئی ہیں اور ہم پر شہاب ثاقب پھینکے جانے لگے ہیں، قوم نے کہا کہ ضرور کوئی نئی بات ہوئی ہے، تم مشرق اور مغرب میں پھیل جاؤ اور معلوم کرو کہ وہ کون سی چیز ہے جس کی بناء پر تمہارے اور آسمانی خبروں کے درمیان رکاوٹ پیدا ہو گئی ہے؟ چنانچہ یہ لوگ اس کا سبب معلوم کرنے کے لئے مشرق اور مغرب میں پھیل گئے، ان میں سے جو شیاطین تہامہ کی طرف گئے تھے، واپسی میں ان کا گزر نبی ﷺ کی طرف سے ہوا، اس وقت آپ ﷺ سوق عکاظ کے ارادے سے ایک باغ میں صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہم کو فجر کی نماز پڑھا رہے تھے، جب ان کے کانوں میں قران کریم کی آواز پڑی تو انہوں نے اسے توجہ سے سننا شروع کر دیا اور کہنے لگے کہ یہی وہ چیز ہے جو تمہارے اور آسمانی خبروں کے درمیان حائل ہو گئی ہے۔ پھر جب یہ لوگ اپنی قوم کے پاس واپس پہنچے تو کہنے لگے کہ اے ہماری قوم! ہم نے ایک عجیب قرآن سنا ہے جو رشد و ہدایت کی طرف رہنمائی کرتا ہے اور ہم اس پر ایمان لے آئے ہیں، اس پر اللہ تعالیٰ نے یہ آیت نازل فرمائی: «﴿قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ . . .﴾ [الجن: 1] » گویا نبی ﷺ پر صرف وحی جنات کے قول کی ہوئی ہے۔
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne baal irada jinnat ko Quran Kareem ki tilawat nahi sunai thi aur na hi unhen dekha tha, asal mein hua yun tha ki Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) apne chand Sahaba Kiram Rizwan Allahu Anhum ke sath ukaz nami mashhoor bazaar tashreef le gaye thay, us waqt tak shayateen aur asmani khabro ke darmiyaan rukawat hail ho chuki thi, aur un par shahab saqib phenke jane lage thay, shayateen pareshan ho kar apni qaum mein wapas aaye to qaum ne un se pucha ki tumhen kya hua? Unhon ne jawab diya ki hamare aur asmani khabro ke darmiyaan rukawaten hail ho gayi hain aur hum par shahab saqib phenke jane lage hain, qaum ne kaha ki zaroor koi nayi baat hui hai, tum mashriq aur maghrib mein phail jao aur maloom karo ki wo kon si cheez hai jiski bina par tumhare aur asmani khabro ke darmiyaan rukawat peda ho gayi hai? Chunanche ye log iska sabab maloom karne ke liye mashriq aur maghrib mein phail gaye, in mein se jo shayateen tehama ki taraf gaye thay, wapsi mein inka guzar Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ki taraf se hua, us waqt Aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) Souq Ukaz ke irade se ek bagh mein Sahaba Kiram (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ko fajar ki namaz parha rahe thay, jab inke kaano mein Quran Kareem ki aawaz padi to inhon ne ise tawajja se sunna shuru kar diya aur kehne lage ki yahi wo cheez hai jo tumhare aur asmani khabro ke darmiyaan hail ho gayi hai. Phir jab ye log apni qaum ke pass wapas pahunche to kehne lage ki aye hamari qaum! hum ne ek ajeeb Quran suna hai jo rushd o hidayat ki taraf rahnumai karta hai aur hum is par iman le aaye hain, is par Allah Taala ne ye ayat nazil farmai: "Qul oohiya ilayya annahu" [Al-Jinn: 1] goya Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) par sirf wahi jinnat ke qaul ki hui hai.
حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَوَانَةَ ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بِشْرٍ ، عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ جُبَيْرٍ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، قَالَ:" مَا قَرَأَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَلَى الْجِنِّ، وَلَا رَآهُمْ، انْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فِي طَائِفَةٍ مِنْ أَصْحَابِهِ عَامِدِينَ إِلَى سُوقِ عُكَاظٍ، وَقَدْ حِيلَ بَيْنَ الشَّيَاطِينِ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ، وَأُرْسِلَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ الشُّهُبُ، قَالَ: فَرَجَعَتْ الشَّيَاطِينُ إِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ، فَقَالُوا: مَا لَكُمْ؟ قَالُوا: حِيلَ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ، وَأُرْسِلَتْ عَلَيْنَا الشُّهُبُ، قَالَ: فَقَالُوا: ما حال بينكم وبين خبر السماء إلا شيء حدث، فاضربوا مشارق الأرض ومغاربها، فَانْظُرُوا مَا هَذَا الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ , قَالَ: فَانْطَلَقُوا يَضْرِبُونَ مَشَارِقَ الْأَرْضِ وَمَغَارِبَهَا يَبْتَغُونَ مَا هَذَا الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَهُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ؟ قَالَ: فَانْصَرَفَ النَّفَرُ الَّذِينَ تَوَجَّهُوا نَحْوَ تِهَامَةَ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَهُوَ بِنَخْلَةَ عَامِدًا إِلَى سُوقِ عُكَاظٍ، وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي بِأَصْحَابِهِ صَلَاةَ الْفَجْرِ، قَالَ: فَلَمَّا سَمِعُوا الْقُرْآنَ، اسْتَمَعُوا لَهُ، وَقَالُوا: هَذَا وَاللَّهِ الَّذِي حَالَ بَيْنَكُمْ وَبَيْنَ خَبَرِ السَّمَاءِ , قَالَ: فَهُنَالِكَ حِينَ رَجَعُوا إِلَى قَوْمِهِمْ، فَقَالُوا: يَا قَوْمَنَا إِنَّا سَمِعْنَا قُرْآنًا عَجَبًا يَهْدِي إِلَى الرُّشْدِ فَآمَنَّا بِهِ سورة الجن آية 1 - 2، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَلَى نَبِيِّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قُلْ أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ أَنَّهُ سورة الجن آية 1 وَإِنَّمَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيْهِ قَوْلُ الْجِنِّ".
