Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 23764
It is narrated on the authority of Muawiya bin Hakam (may Allah be pleased with him) that I asked the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah! Tell me, what is the ruling about the things we used to do in the days of ignorance, for example, we used to take omens from birds?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "It was just a delusion of your mind. Now it should not stop you from doing anything." I asked, "O Messenger of Allah! We used to go to the soothsayers too?". The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Do not go to them now.".

حضرت معاویہ بن حکم رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ میں نے نبی کریم ﷺ سے پوچھا یا رسول اللہ! یہ بتائیے کہ ہم زمانہ جاہلیت میں جو کام کرتے تھے مثلاً ہم پرندوں سے شگون لیتے تھے (اس کا کیا حکم ہے؟) نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا یہ تمہارے ذہن کا ایک وہم ہوتا تھا اب یہ تمہیں کسی کام سے نہ روکے میں نے پوچھا یا رسول اللہ! ہم کاہنوں کے پاس بھی جایا کرتے تھے؟ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا اب نہ جایا کرو۔
Hazrat Muawiya bin Hakam Radi Allaho Anhu se marvi hai keh maine Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam se poocha ya Rasool Allah yeh bataiye keh hum zamanah jahiliyat mein jo kaam karte thay maslan hum parindon se shagoon letay thay is ka kya hukum hai Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam ne farmaya yeh tumhare zehn ka aik wahm hota tha ab yeh tumhen kisi kaam se na roke maine poocha ya Rasool Allah hum kahenon ke paas bhi jaya karte thay Nabi Kareem Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam ne farmaya ab na jaya karo.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ ، أَنْبَأَنَا شُعَيْبٌ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو سَلَمَةَ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ ، أَنَّ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيَّ وَكَانَ صَحَابِيًّا، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، أَرَأَيْتَ أُمُورًا كُنَّا نَفْعَلُهَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، كُنَّا نَتَطَيَّرُ؟! فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " ذَاكَ شَيْءٌ يَجِدُهُ أَحَدُكُمْ فِي نَفْسِهِ، فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكُمْ"، فَقُلْتُ: وَكُنَّا نَأْتِي الْكُهَّانَ! قَالَ:" وَلَا تَأْتُوا الْكُهَّانَ" .
