Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 24039
Narrators say that once some people mentioned in front of Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) was the appointed successor of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). She replied, "When did the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) appoint him as his successor? I was the one supporting the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) with my chest. He asked for a basin, and ultimately, his soul departed while he was in my lap. I didn't even realize that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) had passed away. So when did the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) appoint him as his successor?"

اسود کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ کچھ لوگوں نے حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے سامنے ذکر کیا کہ نبی ﷺ کے وصی حضرت علی رضی اللہ عنہ تھے، انہوں نے فرمایا کہ نبی ﷺ نے انہیں کب اپنا وصی مقرر فرمایا؟ میں نے نبی ﷺ کو اپنے سینے سے سہارا دیا ہوا تھا، انہوں نے ایک طشت منگوایا، بالآخر میری گود میں ہی ان کی روح نے پرواز کیا اور مجھے معلوم بھی نہ ہوسکا کہ آپ ﷺ کا وصال ہوچکا، تو نبی ﷺ نے انہیں اپنا وصی کب مقرر فرما دیا؟
Aswad kehte hain keh ek martaba kuch logon ne Hazrat Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) ke samne zikar kya keh Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke vasi Hazrat Ali (رضي الله تعالى عنه) the, unhon ne farmaya keh Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unhen kab apna vasi muqarar farmaya? Maine Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko apne seene se sahara diya hua tha, unhon ne ek tasht mangvaya, balkhair meri god mein hi un ki rooh ne parwaz kiya aur mujhe maloom bhi na hoska keh aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ka wisal hochuka, to Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne unhen apna vasi kab muqarar farma diya?
حَدَّثَنَا حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ ، عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ ، عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ، عَنِ الْأَسْوَدِ ، قَالَ: ذَكَرُوا عِنْدَ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّ عَلِيًّا كَانَ وَصِيًّا، فَقَالَتْ: " مَتَى أَوْصَى إِلَيْهِ؟ فَقَدْ كُنْتُ مُسْنِدَتَهُ إِلَى صَدْرِي، أَوْ قَالَتْ: فِي حِجْرِي، فَدَعَا بِالطَّسْتِ، فَلَقَدْ انْخَنَثَ فِي حِجْرِي وَمَا شَعَرْتُ أَنَّهُ مَاتَ، فَمَتَى أَوْصَى إِلَيْهِ؟" .
