The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2488
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that once he spent the night at the Prophet's (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) house. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) woke up during the night, went outside, looked up at the sky, and recited these verses from Surah Al-Imran: "Indeed, in the creation of the heavens and the earth and the alternation of the night and the day...Exalted are You; then save us from the punishment of the Fire." (Al-Imran: 190-191). Then he entered the house, used the toilet, performed ablution, and stood up for prayer. Then he lay down for a short while, and after a while went out again, looked at the sky, and repeated the aforementioned acts twice more.

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ انہوں نے نبی ﷺ کے یہاں رات گزاری، نبی ﷺ رات کو بیدار ہوئے، باہر نکل کر آسمان کی طرف نگاہ اٹھا کر دیکھا، پھر سورہ آل عمران کی یہ آیتیں تلاوت فرمائی: «﴿إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلَافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ . . . . . سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ﴾ [آل عمران: 190-191] » تک، پھر گھر میں داخل ہو کر مسواک کی، وضو کیا اور نماز پڑھنے کھڑے ہو گئے، پھر تھوڑی دیر کے لئے لیٹ گئے، کچھ دیر بعد دوبارہ باہر نکل کر آسمان کی طرف دیکھا اور مذکورہ عمل دو مرتبہ مزید دہرایا۔
Sayyidina Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki ek martaba unhon ne Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke yahan raat guzari, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) raat ko bedar hue, bahar nikal kar aasman ki taraf nigah utha kar dekha, phir Surah Al-Imran ki ye aayaten tilawat farmaai: "Inna fi khalqis samawati wal ardi wakhtilafil laili wannahar . . . . . Subhanaka faqinna azaban nar [Al-Imran: 190-191]" tak, phir ghar mein dakhil ho kar miswak ki, wuzu kiya aur namaz padhne khade ho gaye, phir thodi der ke liye lait gaye, kuch der baad dobara bahar nikal kar aasman ki taraf dekha aur mazkoora amal do martaba mazeed dohraya.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ الْفَضْلُ بْنُ دُكَيْنٍ ، حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ الْعَبْدِيُّ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو الْمُتَوَكِّلِ ، أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ حَدَّثَ: أَنَّهُ بَاتَ عِنْدَ نَبِيِّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ذَاتَ لَيْلَةٍ" فَقَامَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ، فَخَرَجَ فَنَظَرَ فِي السَّمَاءِ، ثُمَّ تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ الَّتِي فِي آلِ عِمْرَانَ: إِنَّ فِي خَلْقِ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ وَاخْتِلافِ اللَّيْلِ وَالنَّهَارِ سورة البقرة آية 190 حَتَّى بَلَغَ سُبْحَانَكَ فَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ سورة آل عمران آية 191 , ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلَى الْبَيْتِ فَتَسَوَّكَ وَتَوَضَّأَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى، ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ أَيْضًا فَنَظَرَ فِي السَّمَاءِ، ثُمَّ تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَتَسَوَّكَ وَتَوَضَّأَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى، ثُمَّ اضْطَجَعَ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ أَيْضًا فَنَظَرَ فِي السَّمَاءِ، ثُمَّ تَلَا هَذِهِ الْآيَةَ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ فَتَسَوَّكَ وَتَوَضَّأَ، ثُمَّ قَامَ فَصَلَّى".
