Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 24902
It is narrated on the authority of Aisha that when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) wanted to sleep in a state of major impurity (requiring Ghusl), he would perform ablution like that for prayer.
حضرت عائشہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی ﷺ جب وجوبِ غسل کی حالت میں سونا چاہتے تو نماز جیسا وضو فرما لیتے تھے۔

حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ ، قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هَمَّامٌ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، أَنَّ أَبَا سَلَمَةَ حَدَّثَهُ، أَنَّ عَائِشَةَ حَدَّثَتْهُ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ " إِذَا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْقُدَ، تَوَضَّأَ وُضُوءَهُ لِلصَّلَاةِ، ثُمَّ يَرْقُدُ" .
