Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 25318
It is narrated by Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would observe fasts so consecutively that we would think he would never break them, and sometimes he would abstain from fasting so long that we thought he would never fast again. And I have never seen the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) fast in any month as much as he did in Shaban. He would fast almost the entire month, leaving only a few days.

حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے مروی ہے کہ بعض اوقات نبی ﷺ اتنے روزے رکھتے تھے کہ ہم کہتے تھے اب نبی ﷺ روزے رکھتے ہی رہیں گے اور بعض اوقات اتنے ناغے کرتے کہ ہم کہتے تھے اب نبی ﷺ ناغے ہی کرتے رہیں گے اور میں نے جس کثرت کے ساتھ نبی ﷺ کو شعبان میں روزے رکھتے ہوئے دیکھا ہے، کسی اور مہینے میں نہیں دیکھا، نبی ﷺ اس کے صرف چند دن کو چھوڑ کر تقریبا پورا مہینہ ہی روزہ رکھتے تھے۔
Hazrat Ayesha ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ا) se marvi hai keh baaz auqat Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) itne rozey rakhte thay keh hum kehte thay ab Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) rozey rakhte hi rahengay aur baaz auqat itne naafe karte keh hum kehte thay ab Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) naafe hi karte rahengay aur maine jis kasrat ke sath Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ko Shaban mein rozey rakhte hue dekha hai, kisi aur mahine mein nahin dekha, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) is ke sirf chand din ko chhor kar taqreeban poora mahina hi rozey rakhte thay.
حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَمْرٍو ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ ، قَالَ: قُلْتُ: أَيْ أُمَّهْ، كَيْفَ كَانَ صِيَامُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ؟ قَالَتْ:" كَانَ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ: لَا يُفْطِرُ، وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ: لَا يَصُومُ، وَلَمْ أَرَهُ يَصُومُ مِنْ شَهْرٍ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ صِيَامِهِ مِنْ شَعْبَانَ، كَانَ يَصُومُ شَعْبَانَ إِلَّا قَلِيلًا، بَلْ كَانَ يَصُومُهُ كُلَّهُ" .
