Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 25556
It is narrated on the authority of Ayesha (may Allah be pleased with her) that sometimes the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would observe fasts continuously to the point that we would think that perhaps he would always be fasting. And sometimes he would abandon fasting (for a few days) to the point that we would think that perhaps he would always remain without fasting. And the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would recite Surah Bani Israel (Surah Isra) and Surah Zumar every night.

حضرت عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے مروی ہے کہ بعض اوقات نبی ﷺ اتنے روزے رکھتے تھے کہ ہم کہتے تھے اب نبی ﷺ روزے رکھتے ہی رہیں گے اور بعض اوقات ناغے کرتے کہ ہم کہتے اب نبی ﷺ ناغے ہی کرتے رہیں گے اور نبی ﷺ ہر رات سورت بنی اسرائیل اور سورت زمر کی تلاوت فرماتے تھے۔
Hazrat Ayesha raziallahu anha se marvi hai keh baaz auqat Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) itne rozey rakhte thay keh hum kehte thay ab Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) rozey rakhte hi rahenge aur baaz auqat naghey karte keh hum kehte ab Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) naghey hi karte rahenge aur Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) har raat Surah Bani Israeel aur Surah Zumar ki tilawat farmate thay.
حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ ، عَنْ حَمَّادِ بْنِ زَيْدٍ ، عَنْ مَرْوَانَ أَبِي لُبَابَةَ ، قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَائِشَةَ ، تَقُولُ:" كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَصُومُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ: مَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يُفْطِرَ، وَيُفْطِرُ حَتَّى نَقُولَ: مَا يُرِيدُ أَنْ يَصُومَ، وَكَانَ يَقْرَأُ كُلَّ لَيْلَةٍ بِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ، وَالزُّمَرِ" .
