Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 26681
It is narrated on the authority of Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) that I asked in the court of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), "O Messenger of Allah, how long should women let down their garments?" The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "You all can let them down to the extent of one handspan." I said, "Then their legs will become uncovered." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, "Then, let them down to the length of an arm's length, not more than that."

حضرت ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ میں نے بارگاہ رسالت میں عرض کیا یا رسول اللہ عورتیں اپنا دامن کتنا لٹکائیں نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا تم لوگ ایک بالشت کے برابر اسے لٹکا سکتی ہو میں نے عرض کیا کہ اس طرح تو ان کی پنڈلیاں کھل جائیں گی؟ نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ پھر ایک گز لٹکا لو اس سے زیادہ نہیں۔
Hazrat Umm Salma Radi Allaho Anha se marvi hai keh maine bargah risalat mein arz kya Ya Rasul Allah aurten apna daaman kitna latkayen Nabi sallallaho alaihi wasallam ne farmaya tum log ek baalisht ke barabar use latka sakti ho maine arz kya keh is tarah to unki pindliyan khul jayengi Nabi sallallaho alaihi wasallam ne farmaya keh phir ek gaz latka lo is se ziada nahi.
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عُبَيْدُ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ نَافِعٍ ، عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ يَسَارٍ ، عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ ، قَالَتْ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، كَيْفَ بِالنِّسَاءِ؟ قَالَ: " يُرْخِينَ شِبْرًا" , قُلْتُ: إِذَنْ يَنْكَشِفَ عَنْهُنَّ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ , قَالَ:" فَذِرَاعٌ، لَا يَزِدْنَ عَلَيْهِ" .
