The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2669
It is narrated on the authority of Sayyidina Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that one day he was riding behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said to him, “O boy! I am teaching you a few words: Safeguard the protection of Allah (i.e., act upon His commands), Allah will protect you. Safeguard Allah’s protection, you will find Him before you. When you ask, ask from Allah. When you seek help, seek help from Allah. And know that if the entire world were to gather together to benefit you, they would not be able to benefit you except with what Allah has written for you. And if they were to gather together to harm you, they would not be able to harm you except with what Allah has written for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages have dried.”

سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما سے مروی ہے کہ ایک دن وہ نبی ﷺ کے پیچھے سوار تھے، نبی ﷺ نے ان سے فرمایا: ”اے لڑکے! میں تجھے چند کلمات سکھا رہا ہوں، اللہ کی حفاظت کرو (اس کے احکام کی)، اللہ تمہاری حفاظت کرے گا، اللہ کی حفاظت کرو تم اسے اپنے سامنے پاؤگے، جب مانگو اللہ سے مانگو، جب مدد چاہو اللہ سے چاہو، اور جان رکھو! کہ اگر ساری دنیا مل کر بھی تمہیں نفع پہنچانا چاہے تو تمہیں نفع نہیں پہنچا سکتی سوائے اس کے جو اللہ نے تمہارے لئے لکھ دیا ہے، اور اگر وہ سارے مل کر تمہیں نقصان پہنچانا چاہیں تو تمہیں نقصان نہیں پہنچا سکتے سوائے اس کے جو اللہ نے تمہارے لئے لکھ دیا ہے، قلم اٹھا لئے گئے اور صحیفے خشک ہو چکے۔“
Sayyidna Ibn Abbas ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a se marvi hai ki ek din woh Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke peeche sawar thay, Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne un se farmaya: “Aye ladke! Mein tumhe chand kalmaat sikha raha hun, Allah ki hifazat karo (uske ahkam ki), Allah tumhari hifazat karega, Allah ki hifazat karo tum usay apne samne paoge, jab mango Allah se mango, jab madad chaho Allah se chaho, aur jaan rakho! Ki agar sari duniya mil kar bhi tumhein nafa pahunchana chahe to tumhein nafa nahi pahuncha sakti siwaye uske jo Allah ne tumhare liye likh diya hai, aur agar woh sare mil kar tumhein nuqsan pahunchana chahein to tumhein nuqsan nahi pahuncha sakte siwaye uske jo Allah ne tumhare liye likh diya hai, qalam utha liye gaye aur sahife khushk ho chuke.”
حَدَّثَنَا يُونُسُ ، حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ ، عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ الْحَجَّاجِ ، عَنْ حَنَشٍ الصَّنْعَانِيِّ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ، أَنَّهُ حَدَّثَهُ: أَنَّهُ رَكِبَ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَوْمًا، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:" يَا غُلَامُ إِنِّي مُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ: احْفَظْ اللَّهَ يَحْفَظْكَ، احْفَظْ اللَّهَ تَجِدْهُ تُجَاهَكَ، وَإِذَا سَأَلْتَ فاَسْأَلْ اللَّهَ، وَإِذَا اسْتَعَنْتَ فَاسْتَعِنْ بِاللَّهِ، وَاعْلَمْ أَنَّ الْأُمَّةَ لَوْ اجْتَمَعُوا عَلَى أَنْ يَنْفَعُوكَ، لَمْ يَنْفَعُوكَ إِلَّا بِشَيْءٍ قَدْ كَتَبَهُ اللَّهُ لَكَ، وَلَوْ اجْتَمَعُوا عَلَى أَنْ يَضُرُّوكَ، لَمْ يَضُرُّوكَ إِلَّا بِشَيْءٍ قَدْ كَتَبَهُ اللَّهُ عَلَيْكَ، رُفِعَتْ الْأَقْلَامُ، وَجَفَّتْ الصُّحُفُ".
