The Musnad of Abdullah ibn al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with them both)

Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 2932
Shu'ba said: Once, Masrur bin Mukhram went to visit Ibn 'Abbas. Ibn 'Abbas was wearing a silk garment of istabraq (a type of silk). Masrur said: "O Abu Al-'Abbas! What is this garment?" He asked: "What do you mean?" He said: "This is istabraq (silk)." He said: "By Allah! I did not realize it, and I think that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade wearing it because of arrogance and extravagance, and praise be to Allah! We are not like that." Then Masrur asked: "What are these images on the ring?" He said: "You see that we have already burned them in the fire!" Anyway, when Masrur left, Ibn 'Abbas said: "Take this garment off me and cut off the heads of these idols." People said: "O Abu Al-'Abbas! If you take them to the market with their heads, they will fetch a good price." He refused and ordered that their heads be cut off.

شعبہ رحمہ اللہ کہتے ہیں کہ ایک مرتبہ سیدنا مسور بن مخرمہ رضی اللہ عنہ، سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کی عیادت کے لئے تشریف لائے، سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے اس وقت استبرق کی ریشمی چادر اوڑھ رکھی تھی، سیدنا مسور رضی اللہ عنہ کہنے لگے: اے ابوالعباس! یہ کیا کپڑا ہے؟ انہوں نے پوچھا: کیا مطلب؟ فرمایا: یہ تو استبرق (ریشم) ہے، انہوں نے کہا: واللہ! مجھے اس کے بارے پتہ نہیں چل سکا اور میرا خیال ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے اسے پہننے سے تکبر اور ظلم کی وجہ سے منع فرمایا تھا اور الحمدللہ! ہم ایسے نہیں ہیں۔ پھر سیدنا مسور رضی اللہ عنہ نے پوچھا کہ یہ انگیٹھی میں تصویریں کیسی ہیں؟ انہوں نے کہا کہ آپ دیکھ ہی رہے ہیں کہ ہم نے انہیں آگ میں جلا دیا ہے، بہرحال! سیدنا مسور رضی اللہ عنہ جب چلے گئے تو سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما نے فرمایا: اس چادر کو میرے اوپر سے اتارو اور ان مورتیوں کے سر کا حصہ کاٹ دو، لوگوں نے کہا: اے ابوالعباس! اگر آپ انہیں بازار لے جائیں تو سر کے ساتھ ان کی اچھی قیمت لگ جائے گی، انہوں نے انکار کر دیا اور حکم دیا کہ ان کے سر کا حصہ کاٹ دیا جائے۔
Shoba rehmatullah kehte hain keh aik martaba syedna Masoor bin Mukharmah razi Allah anhu, syedna Ibn Abbas razi Allah anhuma ki ayadat ke liye tashreef laye, syedna Ibn Abbas razi Allah anhuma ne us waqt istabraq ki reshmi chadar odh rakhi thi, syedna Masoor razi Allah anhu kehne lage: aye Abu Al Abbas! yeh kya kapda hai? unhon ne poocha: kya matlab? farmaya: yeh to istabraq (resham) hai, unhon ne kaha: Wallahi! mujhe iske bare pata nahi chal saka aur mera khayal hai keh Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne isse pehenne se takabbur aur zulm ki wajah se mana farmaya tha aur Alhamdulillah! hum aise nahi hain. phir syedna Masoor razi Allah anhu ne poocha keh yeh ungithi mein tasveerein kaisi hain? unhon ne kaha keh aap dekh hi rahe hain keh humne inhen aag mein jala diya hai, beherhaal! syedna Masoor razi Allah anhu jab chale gaye to syedna Ibn Abbas razi Allah anhuma ne farmaya: is chadar ko mere upar se utaro aur in moortion ke sar ka hissa kaat do, logon ne kaha: aye Abu Al Abbas! agar aap inhen bazaar le jayen to sar ke sath in ki acchi qeemat lag jayegi, unhon ne inkar kar diya aur hukm diya keh in ke sar ka hissa kaat diya jaye.
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو النَّضْرِ ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ أَنَّ الْمِسْوَرَ بْنَ مَخْرَمَةَ دَخَلَ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ يَعُودُهُ مِنْ وَجَعٍ، وَعَلَيْهِ بُرْدٌ إِسْتَبْرَقٌ، فقال: يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ، مَا هَذَا الثَّوْبُ؟ قَالَ:" وَمَا هُوَ؟" قَالَ: هَذَا الْإِسْتَبْرَقُ! قَالَ:" وَاللَّهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ بِهِ، وَمَا أَظُنُّ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَهَى عَنه هَذَا، حِينَ نَهَى عَنْهُ، إِلَّا لِلتَّجَبُّرِ وَالتَّكَبُّرِ، وَلَسْنَا بِحَمْدِ اللَّهِ كَذَلِكَ". قَالَ: فَمَا هَذِهِ التَّصَاوِيرُ فِي الْكَانُونِ؟ قَالَ: أَلَا تَرَى قَدْ أَحْرَقْنَاهَا بِالنَّارِ؟ فَلَمَّا خَرَجَ الْمِسْوَرُ، قَالَ: انْزَعُوا هَذَا الثَّوْبَ عَنِّي، وَاقْطَعُوا رُءُوسَ هَذِهِ التَّمَاثِيلِ. قَالُوا: يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ، لَوْ ذَهَبْتَ بِهَا إِلَى السُّوقِ، كَانَ أَنْفَقَ لَهَا مَعَ الرَّأْسِ؟ قَالَ: لَا. فَأَمَرَ بِقَطْعِ رُءُوسِهَا.
