Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 7376
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that once the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) offered one of the two afternoon prayers, Zuhr or Asr, most likely Zuhr. He offered two rak'ahs and finished the prayer with salam. Then he went to the trunk of a date palm tree in the mosque which was wide, and gestured with his hand as if he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was angry. The people who were quick to react started leaving the mosque, saying that the rak'ahs of the prayer had been reduced. Abu Bakr Siddique (may Allah be pleased with him) and Umar Farooq (may Allah be pleased with him) were also present among the people at that time, but they felt hesitant to talk to the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) in this matter. Upon this, Dhul-Yadayn (another companion) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Did you forget or have the rak'ahs of the prayer been reduced?" The Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "I did not forget, nor have the rak'ahs of the prayer been reduced." Dhul-Yadayn said: "You have only prayed two rak'ahs." The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) looked at the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) with questioning eyes, "Is it as Dhul-Yadayn is saying?" The honorable Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) confirmed it. Upon this, the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) stood up and prayed two rak'ahs and finished the prayer with salam. Then he said Allahu Akbar and performed a prostration like the prostration of prayer or a little longer. Then he lifted his head, said Takbeer, and sat down. Then he said Takbeer again and performed the second prostration.

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ ایک مرتبہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے دوپہر کی دو میں سے کوئی ایک نماز ظہر یا عصر، غالب گمان کے مطابق پڑھائی اور دو رکعتیں پڑھا کر ہی سلام پھیر دیا اور مسجد میں موجود اس تنے کے پاس تشریف لائے جو چوڑائی میں تھا اور اپنے ہاتھ سے ایسا اشارہ کیا گویا کہ آپ ﷺ غصے میں ہوں جلد باز قسم کے لوگ مسجد سے نکلنے اور کہنے لگے کہ نماز کی رکعتیں کم ہو گئیں اس وقت لوگوں میں حضرت ابوبکر صدیق رضی اللہ عنہ اور حضرت عمر فاروق رضی اللہ عنہ بھی تھے لیکن اس معاملے میں نبی کریم ﷺ سے گفتگو کرنے میں انہیں ہیبت محسوس ہوئی اس پر ذوالیدین نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! کیا آپ بھول گئے یا نماز کی رکعتیں کم ہو گئی ہیں؟ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا: میں بھولا ہوں اور نہ ہی نماز کی رکعتیں کم ہوئی ہیں ذو الیدین نے کہا آپ نے تو دو رکعتیں پڑھی ہیں نبی ﷺ نے صحابہ رضی اللہ عنہ کی طرف سوالیہ نظروں سے دیکھا کیا ایسا ہی ہے جیسے ذوالیدین کہہ رہے ہیں صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہ نے ان کی تائید کی اس پر نبی کریم ﷺ نے کھڑے ہو کردو رکعتیں پڑھیں اور سلام پھیر کر اللہ اکبر کہا اور نماز کے سجدہ کی طرح یا اس سے کچھ طویل سجدہ کیا، پھر سر اٹھا کر تکبیر کہی اور بیٹھ گئے، پھر دوبارہ تکبیر کہہ کر دوسرا سجدہ کیا۔
Hazrat Abu Huraira razi Allah anhu se marwi hai ke ek martaba Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne dopahar ki do mein se koi ek namaz Zuhr ya Asr, ghalib ghuman ke mutabiq parhaee aur do rakaaten parh kar hi salam phair diya aur masjid mein mojood us tane ke paas tashreef laye jo choraee mein tha aur apne hath se aisa ishara kya goya ke aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ghusse mein hon jald baaz qisam ke log masjid se nikalne aur kehne lage ke namaz ki rakaaten kam ho gayeen us waqt logon mein Hazrat Abubakar Siddique razi Allah anhu aur Hazrat Umar Farooq razi Allah anhu bhi thay lekin is mamle mein Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) se guftgu karne mein unhen heybat mehsoos hui is par Zuljadein ne arz kiya: Ya Rasulullah! kya aap bhool gaye ya namaz ki rakaaten kam ho gayi hain? Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya: mein bhoola hon aur na hi namaz ki rakaaten kam hui hain Zuljadein ne kaha aap ne to do rakaaten parhaeen Nabi (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne Sahaba razi Allah anhum ki taraf sawaliya nazron se dekha kya aisa hi hai jaise Zuljadein keh rahe hain Sahaba kiram razi Allah anhum ne un ki taeed ki is par Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne kharay ho kar do rakaaten parhaeen aur salam phair kar Allah Akbar kaha aur namaz ke sajde ki tarah ya us se kuch tawil sajdah kya, phir sar utha kar takbeer kahi aur baith gaye, phir dobara takbeer keh kar doosra sajdah kya.
حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ ، سَمِعَ أَيُّوبَ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَقُولُ: صَلَّى رسول الله صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِحْدَى صَلَاتَيْ الْعَشِيِّ، إِمَّا الظُّهْرُ، أو العصر وَأَكْثَرُ ظَنِّي أَنَّهَا الْعَصْرُ، فَسَلَّمَ فِي اثْنَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ أَتَى جِذْعًا كَانَ يُصَلِّي إِلَيْهِ، فَجَلَسَ إِلَيْهِ مُغْضَبًا، وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ: ثُمَّ أَتَى جِذْعًا فِي الْقِبْلَةِ كَانَ يُسْنِدُ إِلَيْهِ ظَهْرَهُ، فَأَسْنَدَ إِلَيْهِ ظَهْرَهُ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ خَرَجَ سَرَعَانُ النَّاسِ، فَقَالُوا: قُصِرَتْ الصَّلَاةُ، وَفِي الْقَوْمِ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرُ، فهاباهُ أَن يُكلِّماه، فقِال ذو اليَدينِ: أي رسولَ الله، قُصِرَتِ الصَّلاةُ أَم نَسِيتَ؟ قَالَ:" مَا قُصِرَتْ، وَمَا نَسِيتُ"، قَالَ: فَإِنَّكَ لَمْ تُصَلِّ إِلَّا رَكْعَتَيْنِ، قَالَ: فَنَظَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقَالُوا: نَعَمْ، فَقَامَ، فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ، ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ كَبَّرَ وَسَجَدَ كَسَجْدَتِهِ أَوْ أَطْوَلَ، ثُمَّ رَفَعَ وَكَبَّرَ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ وَكَبَّرَ.
