Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 7899
It is narrated on the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that whenever a funeral was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), he (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would first ask if the deceased person owed any debt. If the people said yes, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would ask if he had left any wealth to repay it. If the people said yes, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would offer his funeral prayer. But if they replied in the negative, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) would say, "Then you offer the funeral prayer of your companion yourselves." Then when Allah opened the door of conquests, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) declared, "I have more right over the believers than their own selves. So whoever dies leaving a debt, its repayment is my responsibility, and whoever leaves wealth, it belongs to his heirs."

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ کے پاس جب کوئی جنازہ لایا جاتا تو آپ ﷺ پہلے یہ سوال پوچھتے کہ اس شخص پر کوئی قرض ہے؟ اگر لوگ کہتے جی ہاں تو نبی کریم ﷺ پوچھتے کہ اسے ادا کرنے کے لئے اس نے کچھ مال چھوڑا ہے؟ اگر لوگ کہتے جی ہاں تو نبی کریم ﷺ اس کی نماز جنازہ پڑھا دیتے اور اگر وہ ناں میں جواب دیتے تو نبی کریم ﷺ فرما دیتے کہ اپنے ساتھی کی نماز جنازہ خود ہی پڑھ لو پھر اللہ نے فتوحات کا دروازہ کھولا تو نبی کریم ﷺ نے اعلان فرما دیا کہ میں مؤمنین پر ان کی جانوں سے زیادہ حق رکھتا ہوں اس لئے جو شخص قرض چھوڑ کر جائے اس کی ادائیگی میرے ذمے ہے اور جو شخص مال چھوڑ کر جائے وہ اس کے ورثاء کا ہے۔
Hazrat Abu Hurairah (رضي الله تعالى عنه) se marvi hai ke Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ke pass jab koi janaza laya jata to aap (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) pehle ye sawal poochte ke is shakhs par koi qarz hai? Agar log kehte ji haan to Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) poochte ke ise ada karne ke liye isne kuch maal chhoda hai? Agar log kehte ji haan to Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) uski namaz janaza padha dete aur agar wo na mein jawab dete to Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) farma dete ke apne sathi ki namaz janaza khud hi padh lo phir Allah ne fatahhat ka darwaza khola to Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne elan farma diya ke mein mominoon par unki jaano se zyada haq rakhta hun isliye jo shakhs qarz chhod kar jaye uski adaegi mere zimme hai aur jo shakhs maal chhod kar jaye wo uske warisa ka hai.
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ ، أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ إِذَا شَهِدَ جَنَازَةً سَأَلَ:" هَلْ عَلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ دَيْنٌ؟" فَإِنْ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، قَالَ:" هَلْ لَهُ وَفَاءٌ؟" فَإِنْ قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، صَلَّى عَلَيْهِ، وَإِنْ قَالُوا: لَا، قَالَ:" صَلُّوا عَلَى صَاحِبِكُمْ"، فَلَمَّا فَتَحَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ عَلَيْهِ الْفُتُوحَ، قَالَ: " أَنَا أَوْلَى بِالْمُؤْمِنِينَ مِنْ أَنْفُسِهِمْ، فَمَنْ تَرَكَ دَيْنًا فَعَلَيَّ، وَمَنْ تَرَكَ مَالًا فَلِوَرَثَتِهِ" .
