Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 8280
Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Two women were with their two sons, and a wolf came and took away one boy. The two women went to Prophet David (to judge their case) and he decided the case in favor of the elder woman (that the surviving boy was hers). Then they went to Prophet Solomon (to judge their case), and he said, "Bring me a knife so that I may cut the boy into two halves and give one half to each of you." On that, the younger woman said, "May Allah be merciful to you! (Don't kill the child) He is her son." So, Solomon gave her the child. Abu Huraira added: "By Allah! It was then that we came to know the Arabic word 'Sikkin' (knife), otherwise, we used to call it 'Mudya'."

حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا دو عورتیں تھیں ان کے ساتھ ان کے دو بیٹے بھی تھے اچانک کہیں سے ایک بھیڑیا آیا اور ایک لڑکے کو اٹھا کرلے گیا وہ دونوں اپنا مقدمہ لے کر حضرت داؤد علیہ السلام کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوئیں انہوں نے یہ فیصلہ فرما دیا کہ جو بچہ رہ گیا ہے وہ بڑی والی کا ہے وہ دونوں وہاں سے نکلیں تو حضرت سلیمان علیہ السلام نے انہیں بلالیا اور فرمانے لگے کہ چھری لے کر آؤ میں اس بچے کو دو حصوں میں تقسیم کر کے تمہیں دے دیتا ہوں یہ سن کر چھوٹی والی کہنے لگی کہ اللہ آپ رحم فرمائے یہ اسی کا بچہ ہے (کم از کم زندہ تو رہے گا) آپ اسے دو حصوں میں تقسیم نہ کریں چنانچہ حضرت سلیمان علیہ السلام نے چھوٹی والی کے حق میں فیصلہ کردیا۔ حضرت ابوہریرہ رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہ واللہ چھری کے لئے عربی میں سکین کا لفظ ہمارے علم میں اسی دن آیا اس سے پہلے ہم اسے مدیہ کہتے تھے۔

حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ حَفْصٍ ، أَخْبَرَنَا وَرْقَاءُ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الْأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: " بَيْنَمَا امْرَأَتَانِ مَعَهُمَا ابْنَانِ لَهُمَا، جَاءَ الذِّئْبُ فَأَخَذَ أَحَدَ الِابْنَيْنِ، فَتَحَاكَمَا إِلَى دَاوُدَ، فَقَضَى بِهِ لِلْكُبْرَى، فَخَرَجَتَا فَدَعَاهُمَا سُلَيْمَانُ، فَقَالَ: هَاتُوا السِّكِّينَ أَشُقُّهُ بَيْنَهُمَا، فَقَالَتْ الصُّغْرَى: يَرْحَمُكَ اللَّهُ، هُوَ ابْنُهَا، لَا تَشُقَّهُ، فَقَضَى بِهِ لِلصُّغْرَى" ، قَالَ أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ: وَاللَّهِ إِنْ عَلِمْنَا مَا السِّكِّينُ إِلَّا يَوْمَئِذٍ، وَمَا كُنَّا نَقُولُ إِلَّا الْمُدْيَةَ.
