Musnad Ahmad ibn Hanbal 9819
It is narrated on the authority of the same chain of transmitters that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: You would necessarily follow the ways of those who were before you, span by span and cubit by cubit, to the extent that if they had entered the hole of a lizard, you would have entered along with them. They (the Companions) said: Messenger of Allah, do you mean Jews and Christians (by your words "those who were before you")? He said: Who else (could it be)?

گزشتہ سند ہی سے مروی ہے کہ نبی کریم ﷺ نے فرمایا تم گزشتہ امتوں کی پورے پورے ہاتھ گز اور بالشت کے تناسب سے ضرور پیروی کروگے حتیٰ کہ اگر وہ لوگ کسی گوہ کے سوراخ اور بل میں داخل ہوئے ہوں گے تو تم بھی ایسا ہی کروگے۔ صحابہ کرام رضی اللہ عنہ نے پوچھا یا رسول اللہ ﷺ کیا اس سے یہودونصاریٰ مراد ہیں؟ فرمایا تو پھر اور کون؟
Guzishta sanad hi se marvi hai ki Nabi Kareem (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ne farmaya tum guzistha umton ki pure pure hath guz aur balisht ke tanasub se zaroor pairvi karoge hatta ki agar wo log kisi goh ke suraakh aur bil mein dakhil huye honge to tum bhi aisa hi karoge. Sahaba kiram (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ne puchha Ya Rasulullah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) kya is se Yahood o Nasara murad hain? Farmaya to phir aur kaun?
حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ , أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ ، عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَة ، قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّم: " لَتَتَّبِعُنَّ سُنَنَ مَنْ كَانَ قَبْلَكُمْ بَاعًا بِبَاعٍ، وَذِرَاعًا بِذِرَاعٍ، وَشِبْرًا بِشِبْرٍ، حَتَّى لَوْ دَخَلُوا فِي جُحْرِ ضَبٍّ لَدَخَلْتُمْ مَعَهُمْ". قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، الْيَهُودُ , وَالنَّصَارَى؟، قَالَ:" فَمَنْ إِذًا" .
