Mahmud said that he had heard `Itban bin Malik, who was present with Allah's Apostle in the battle of Badr saying, I used to lead my people at Bani Salim in the prayer and there was a valley between me and those people. Whenever it rained it used to be difficult for me to cross it to go to their mosque. So I went to Allah's Apostle and said, 'I have weak eyesight and the valley between me and my people flows during the rainy season and it becomes difficult for me to cross it; I wish you would come to my house and pray at a place so that I could take that place as a praying place.' Allah's Apostle said, 'I will do so.' So Allah's Apostle and Abu Bakr came to my house in the (next) morning after the sun had risen high. Allah's Apostle asked my permission to let him in and I admitted him. He did not sit before saying, 'Where do you want us to offer the prayer in your house?' I pointed to the place where I wanted him to pray. So Allah's Apostle stood up for the prayer and started the prayer with Takbir and we aligned in rows behind him; and he offered two rak`at, and finished them with Taslim, and we also performed Taslim with him. I detained him for a meal called Khazir which I had prepared for him.--( Khazir is a special type of dish prepared from barley flour and meat soup)-- When the neighbors got the news that Allah's Apostle was in my house, they poured it till there were a great number of men in the house. One of them said, 'What is wrong with Malik, for I do not see him?' One of them replied, 'He is a hypocrite and does not love Allah and His Apostle.' On that Allah's Apostle said, 'Don't say this. Haven't you seen that he said, 'None has the right to be worshipped but Allah for Allah's sake only.' The man replied, 'Allah and His Apostle know better; but by Allah, we never saw him but helping and talking with the hypocrites.' Allah's Apostle replied, 'No doubt, whoever says. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, and by that he wants the pleasures of Allah, then Allah will save him from Hell. Mahmud added, I told the above narration to some people, one of whom was Abu Aiyub, the companion of Allah's Apostle in the battle in which he (Abu Aiyub) died and Yazid bin Mu'awiya was their leader in Roman Territory. Abu Aiyub denounced the narration and said, 'I doubt that Allah's Apostle ever said what you have said.' I felt that too much, and I vowed to Allah that if I remained alive in that holy battle, I would (go to Medina and) ask `Itban bin Malik if he was still living in the mosque of his people. So when he returned, I assumed Ihram for Hajj or `Umra and then I proceeded on till I reached Medina. I went to Bani Salim and `Itban bin Malik, who was by then an old blind man, was leading his people in the prayer. When he finished the prayer, I greeted him and introduced myself to him and then asked him about that narration. He told that narration again in the same manner as he had narrated it the first time.
حضرت محمود بن ربیع نے فرمایا کہ میں نے حضرت عتبان بن مالک انصاری ؓ سے سنا۔ اور وہ ان لوگوں میں سے تھے جو نبی ﷺ کے ہمراہ غزوہ بدر میں شریک ہوئے تھے۔ حضرت عتبان ؓ نے فرمایا: میں قبیلہ بنو سالم میں اپنی قوم کو نماز پڑھایا کرتا تھا۔ میرے اور اس قبیلے کے درمیان ایک وادی حائل تھی۔ جب بارشیں ہوتیں تو اسے عبور کر کے ان کی مسجد تک پہنچنا میرے لیے دشوار ہو جاتا، اس لیے میں رسول اللہ ﷺ کی خدمت میں حاضر ہوا اور عرض کیا کہ میری نظر کمزور ہو چکی ہے اور یہ وادی جو میرے اور میری قوم کے درمیان بہتی ہے جب بارشیں ہوں تو اسے عبور کرنا میرے لیے مشکل ہو جاتا ہے۔ میری خواہش ہے کہ آپ تشریف لائیں اور میرے گھر میں کسی جگہ پر نماز پڑھیں تاکہ میں اسے (ہمیشہ کے لیے) جائے نماز بنا لوں۔ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ’’میں عنقریب آؤں گا۔‘‘ چنانچہ ایک دن جب سورج چڑھ آیا تو رسول اللہ ﷺ اور ابوبکر صدیق ؓ میرے پاس تشریف لائے۔ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے اندر آنے کی اجازت طلب فرمائی۔ میں نے آپ کو اجازت دی تو آپ نے بیٹھنے سے پہلے فرمایا: ’’آپ اپنے گھر کے کس حصے میں ہمارا نماز پڑھنا پسند کرتے ہیں؟‘‘ میں نے آپ کے لیے ایک جگہ کی طرف اشارہ کیا جہاں میں پسند کرتا تھا کہ وہاں نماز ادا کی جائے، چنانچہ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے وہاں کھڑے ہو کر اللہ اکبر کہا۔ ہم نے بھی آپ کے پیچھے صفیں درست کر لیں۔ آپ نے دو رکعتیں پڑھ کر سلام پھیر دیا۔ ہم نے بھی آپ کے سلام پھیرنے پر سلام پھیر دیا۔ پھر میں نے موٹے آٹے اور گوشت سے تیار کردہ کھانا پیش کیا جو آپ ہی کے لیے تیار کیا گیا تھا۔ جب اہل محلہ کو پتہ چلا کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ میرے گھر میں تشریف فر ہیں تو وہ پے درپے اکٹھے ہونا شروع ہو گئے حتی کہ بہت سے لوگ میرے گھر میں جمع ہو گئے۔ ان میں سے ایک شخص نے کہا: مالک (ابن دخشن) ؓ کو کیا ہوا؟ وہ ہمیں یہاں نظر نہیں آ رہا؟ ان میں سے ایک دوسرے شخص نے کہا: وہ منافق ہے۔ اللہ اور اس کے رسول ﷺ سے محبت نہیں رکھتا، رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ’’ایسا مت کہو۔ کیا تم اسے نہیں دیکھتے ہو کہ وہ لا إله إلا الله کہتا ہے اور اس کا کلمہ پڑھنے کا مقصد صرف اللہ تعالیٰ کی رضا جوئی ہے۔‘‘ اس شخص نے کہا: (ویسے تو) اللہ اور اس کے رسول ﷺ ہی بہتر جانتے ہیں لیکن اللہ کی قسم! ہم تو اس کی دوستی اور کلام و سلام منافقین کے ساتھ ہی دیکھتے ہیں۔ رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا: ’’اللہ تعالیٰ نے اس شخص کو جہنم پر حرام کر دیا ہے جو اللہ کی رضا کے لیے کلمہ طیبہ پڑھتا ہے۔‘‘ حضرت محمود بن ربیع ؓ نے فرمایا: میں نے یہ حدیث چند لوگوں سے بیان کی جن میں رسول اللہ ﷺ کے صحابی حضرت ابوایوب انصاری ؓ بھی تھے۔ یہ واقعہ اس غزوے میں پیش آیا جس میں حضرت ابو ایوب انصاری ؓ کی شہادت ہوئی اور رومی سرزمین (قسطنطنیہ) میں یزید بن معاویہ امیر لشکر تھے۔ حضرت ابو ایوب انصاری ؓ نے اس واقعے کا صاف انکار کر دیا اور فرمایا: اللہ کی قسم! میرا رسول اللہ ﷺ کے متعلق ہرگز خیال نہیں کہ آپ نے ایسے کلمات فرمائے ہوں گے جو تم نے آپ ﷺ کی طرف منسوب کیے ہیں۔ مجھ پر ان کا انکار بہت گراں گزرا، اس لیے میں نے اپنے اوپر یہ لازم کر لیا کہ اگر اللہ تعالیٰ نے اس غزوے سے واپسی تک مجھے صحیح سالم رکھا تو میں اس کے متعلق حضرت عتبان بن مالک ؓ سے ضرور دریافت کروں گا بشرطیکہ میں اسے اس قوم کی مسجد میں بقید حیات پاؤں، چنانچہ میں جب اس غزوے سے واپس لوٹا تو میں نے حج یا عمرے کا احرام باندھا اور وہاں سے روانہ ہوا۔ بالآخر جب میں مدینہ منورہ پہنچا تو قبیلہ بنو سالم کا رخ کیا۔ میں نے وہاں حضرت عتبان بن مالک ؓ کو دیکھا کہ وہ نابینے ہو چکے ہیں اور اپنی قوم کو نماز پڑھا رہے ہیں۔ جب وہ نماز سے فارغ ہوئے تو میں نے انہیں سلام کیا اور اپنا تعارف کرایا۔ پھر میں نے ان سے اس حدیث کے متعلق دریافت کیا تو انہوں نے واقعہ اسی طرح بیان کیا جس طرح پہلی مرتبہ بیان کیا تھا۔
Hazrat Mahmood bin Rial ne farmaya ke mein ne Hazrat Itban bin Malik Ansari (Radi Allahu Anhu) se suna. Aur wo un logon mein se thay jo Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke humrah ghazwa-e-Badar mein shareek hue thay. Hazrat Itban (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne farmaya: Mein qabeela Banu Salim mein apni qaum ko namaz parhaya karta tha. Mere aur is qabeele ke darmiyan ek wadi hael thi. Jab barishein hotin to usey uboor kar ke un ki masjid tak pahunchna mere liye dushwar ho jata, is liye mein Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki khidmat mein hazir hua aur arz kiya ke meri nazar kamzor ho chuki hai aur ye wadi jo mere aur meri qaum ke darmiyan behti hai jab barishein hon to usey uboor karna mere liye mushkil ho jata hai. Meri khwahish hai ke Aap tashreef layein aur mere ghar mein kisi jagah par namaz parhein takay mein usey (hamesha ke liye) jaye-namaz bana loon. Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: ''Mein an-qareeb aaoon ga.'' Chunanche ek din jab suraj charh aaya to Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) aur Abu Bakr Siddiq (Radi Allahu Anhu) mere pas tashreef laye. Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne andar aane ki ijazat talab farmai. Mein ne Aap ko ijazat di to Aap ne baithne se pehle farmaya: ''Aap apne ghar ke kis hisse mein hamara namaz parhna pasand karte hain?'' Mein ne Aap ke liye ek jagah ki taraf ishara kiya jahan mein pasand karta tha ke wahan namaz ada ki jaye, chunanche Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne wahan khare ho kar Allahu Akbar kaha. Hum ne bhi Aap ke peeche safain durust kar lein. Aap ne do raktein parh kar salam pher diya. Hum ne bhi Aap ke salam pherne par salam pher diya. Phir mein ne mote aate aur gosht se tayyar-karda khana pesh kiya jo Aap hi ke liye tayyar kiya gaya tha. Jab ahl-e-mahalla ko pata chala ke Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) mere ghar mein tashreef-far hain to wo pay-dar-pay ikatte hona shuru ho gaye hatta ke bahut se log mere ghar mein jama ho gaye. Un mein se ek shakhs ne kaha: Malik (ibn Dukhshan) (Radi Allahu Anhu) ko kya hua? Wo humein yahan nazar nahi aa raha? Un mein se ek doosre shakhs ne kaha: Wo munafiq hai. Allah aur is ke Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) se mohabbat nahi rakhta, Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: ''Aisa mat kaho. Kya tum ise nahi dekhte ho ke wo (La ilaha illallah) kehta hai aur is ka kalma parhne ka maqsad sirf Allah Ta'ala ki raza-joi hai.'' Is shakhs ne kaha: (Waise to) Allah aur is ke Rasool (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) hi behtar jante hain lekin Allah ki qasam! hum to is ki dosti aur kalam-o-salam munafiqeen ke sath hi dekhte hain. Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne farmaya: ''Allah Ta'ala ne is shakhs ko jahannum par haram kar diya hai jo Allah ki raza ke liye Kalma-e-Tayyiba parhta hai.'' Hazrat Mahmood bin Rial (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne farmaya: Mein ne ye hadees chand logon se bayan ki jin mein Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke sahabi Hazrat Abu Ayub Ansari (Radi Allahu Anhu) bhi thay. Ye waqia is ghazway mein pesh aaya jis mein Hazrat Abu Ayub Ansari (Radi Allahu Anhu) ki shahadat hui aur Roomi sar-zameen (Qustuntuniya) mein Yazid bin Muawiya ameer-e-lashkar thay. Hazrat Abu Ayub Ansari (Radi Allahu Anhu) ne is waqiye ka saaf inkar kar diya aur farmaya: Allah ki qasam! mera Rasool Allah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke mutaliq hargiz khayal nahi ke Aap ne aise kalmat farmaye hon ge jo tum ne Aap (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ki taraf mansoob kiye hain. Mujh par un ka inkar bahut garaan guzra, is liye mein ne apne oopar ye lazim kar liya ke agar Allah Ta'ala ne is ghazway se wapsi tak mujhe sahi-salim rakkha to mein is ke mutaliq Hazrat Itban bin Malik (Radi Allahu Anhu) se zaroor daryaft karoon ga ba-shart-e-ke mein ise is qaum ki masjid mein ba-qaid-e-hayat paoon, chunanche mein jab is ghazway se wapas louta to mein ne hajj ya umre ka ihram bandha aur wahan se rawana hua. Bil-akhir jab mein Madinah Munawwarah pahuncha to qabeela Banu Salim ka rukh kiya. Mein ne wahan Hazrat Itban bin Malik (Radi Allahu Anhu) ko dekha ke wo nabine ho chuke hain aur apni qaum ko namaz parha rahe hain. Jab wo namaz se farigh hue to mein ne unhein salam kiya aur apna ta-aruf karaya. Phir mein ne un se is hadees ke mutaliq daryaft kiya to unhon ne waqia isi tarah bayan kiya jis tarah pehli martaba bayan kiya tha.
