The Statement of Allah "The fools (pagans, hypocrites and Jews) among the people will say, 'What has turned them (Muslims) from their Qiblah [Salat (prayer) direction (towards Jerusalem)]..." (V.2:142)

باب {سَيَقُولُ السُّفَهَاءُ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَا وَلاَّهُمْ عَنْ قِبْلَتِهِمُ الَّتِي كَانُوا عَلَيْهَا قُلْ لِلَّهِ الْمَشْرِقُ وَالْمَغْرِبُ يَهْدِي مَنْ يَشَاءُ إِلَى صِرَاطٍ مُسْتَقِيمٍ}

Sahih al-Bukhari 4486
Narrated Al-Bara: The Prophet prayed facing Bait-ulMaqdis (i.e. Jerusalem) for sixteen or seventeen months but he wished that his Qibla would be the Ka`ba (at Mecca). (So Allah Revealed (2.144) and he offered `Asr prayers(in his Mosque facing Ka`ba at Mecca) and some people prayed with him. A man from among those who had prayed with him, went out and passed by some people offering prayer in another mosque, and they were in the state of bowing. He said, I, (swearing by Allah,) testify that I have prayed with the Prophet facing Mecca. Hearing that, they turned their faces to the Ka`ba while they were still bowing. Some men had died before the Qibla was changed towards the Ka`ba. They had been killed and we did not know what to say about them (i.e. whether their prayers towards Jerusalem were accepted or not). So Allah revealed:-- And Allah would never make your faith (i.e. prayer) to be lost (i.e. your prayers offered (towards Jerusalem). Truly Allah is Full of Pity, Most Merciful towards mankind. (2.143)
حضرت براء ؓ سے روایت ہے کہ نبی ﷺ نے بیت المقدس کی طرف منہ کر کے سولہ یا سترہ مہینے تک نماز پڑھی، البتہ آپ کی خواہش تھی کہ قبلہ، بیت اللہ (کعبہ) ہو جائے۔ بالآخر آپ نے ایک دن نماز عصر (بیت اللہ کی طرف رخ کر کے) پڑھی اور آپ کے ہمراہ صحابہ کرام ؓ بھی تھے۔ جن حضرات نے آپ کے ہمراہ یہ نماز پڑھی تھی، ان میں سے ایک شخص مدینہ طیبہ کی ایک مسجد کے قریب سے گزرا تو نمازی مسجد میں بحالت رکوع تھے۔ اس (صحابی) نے کہا: میں اللہ کا نام لے کر گواہی دیتا ہوں کہ میں نے نبی ﷺ کے ہمراہ مکہ کی طرف منہ کر کے نماز پڑھی ہے۔ یہ سن کر مسجد کے تمام نمازی اسی حالت میں بیت اللہ کی طرف پھر گئے۔ (سلام کے بعد آپس میں) کہنے لگے کہ جو حضرات کعبہ کے قبلہ بننے سے قبل انتقال کر گئے ہیں ان کے متعلق ہم کیا کہیں؟ اس پر یہ آیت نازل ہوئی: "اللہ تعالٰی ایسا نہیں کہ تمہارے ایمان (نمازوں) کو ضائع کر دے۔ یقینا اللہ تعالٰی اپنے بندوں پر بےحد شفقت کرنے والا، انتہائی مہربان ہے۔"
Hazrat Bara (Radi Allahu Anhu) se riwayat hai ke Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ne Bait-ul-Maqdis ki taraf munh kar ke solah ya satrah mahine tak namaz parhi, albatta Aap ki khwahish thi ke Qibla, Baitullah (Ka'ba) ho jaye. Bil-aakhir Aap ne ek din namaz-e-asr (Baitullah ki taraf rukh kar ke) parhi aur Aap ke humrah sahabah karam (Radi Allahu Anhum) bhi the. Jin hazrat ne Aap ke humrah yeh namaz parhi thi, in mein se ek shakhs Madina Tayyibah ki ek masjid ke qareeb se guzra to namazi masjid mein bahalat-e-ruku the. Is (sahabi) ne kaha: Main Allah ka naam le kar gawahi deta hoon ke main ne Nabi (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) ke humrah Makkah ki taraf munh kar ke namaz parhi hai. Yeh sun kar masjid ke tamam namazi isi halat mein Baitullah ki taraf phir gaye. (Salam ke baad aapas mein) kehne lage ke jo hazrat Ka'ba ke qibla banne se qabal intiqal kar gaye hain un ke mutaliq hum kya kahein? Is par yeh ayat nazil hui: "Allah Ta'ala aisa nahi ke tumhare iman (namazon) ko zaya kar de. Yaqeenan Allah Ta'ala apne bandon par be-had shafqat karne wala, intihai meharban hai."
حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو نُعَيْمٍ ، سَمِعَ زُهَيْرًا , عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ ، عَنْ الْبَرَاءِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ , أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : صَلَّى إِلَى بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ سِتَّةَ عَشَرَ شَهْرًا أَوْ سَبْعَةَ عَشَرَ شَهْرًا ، وَكَانَ يُعْجِبُهُ أَنْ تَكُونَ قِبْلَتُهُ قِبَلَ الْبَيْتِ ، وَأَنَّهُ صَلَّى أَوْ صَلَّاهَا صَلَاةَ الْعَصْرِ وَصَلَّى مَعَهُ قَوْمٌ ، فَخَرَجَ رَجُلٌ مِمَّنْ كَانَ صَلَّى مَعَهُ ، فَمَرَّ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْمَسْجِدِ وَهُمْ رَاكِعُونَ ، قَالَ : أَشْهَدُ بِاللَّهِ لَقَدْ صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قِبَلَ مَكَّةَ فَدَارُوا كَمَا هُمْ قِبَلَ الْبَيْتِ ، وَكَانَ الَّذِي مَاتَ عَلَى الْقِبْلَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُحَوَّلَ قِبَلَ الْبَيْتِ رِجَالٌ قُتِلُوا لَمْ نَدْرِ مَا نَقُولُ فِيهِمْ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ : وَمَا كَانَ اللَّهُ لِيُضِيعَ إِيمَانَكُمْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ بِالنَّاسِ لَرَءُوفٌ رَحِيمٌ سورة البقرة آية 143 .
