باب من قال: العلم: الخشية وتقوى الله
Sunan al-Darimi 307
Jabir bin Hayyan said: "Beware of the sinful scholar." When this news reached Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, he wrote to him and Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, was afraid of it. He asked: "What do you mean by a sinful scholar?" Jabir replied: "By Allah, O Commander of the Faithful! I only meant well by it. There may be an imam who speaks of knowledge but whose deeds are of corruption and wickedness, and he casts doubt into the people, so they become misguided."

ہرم بن حیان نے کہا: فاسق عالم سے بچو، یہ خبر جب سیدنا عمر بن الخطاب رضی اللہ عنہ کو پہنچی تو انہیں لکھا اور وہ سیدنا عمر رضی اللہ عنہ اس سے ڈر گئے، پوچھا فاسق عالم سے تمہاری مراد کیا ہے؟ ہرم نے جواب دیا: والله يا امیر المومنین! میری مراد اس سے خیر ہی تھی، کوئی امام ایسا ہوتا ہے کہ علم کی بات تو کرتا ہے لیکن کام فسق و فجور کے کرتا ہے، اور لوگوں کو شبہ میں ڈال دیتا ہے، پس وہ گمراہ ہو جاتے ہیں۔
Haram bin Hayan ne kaha: Faasiq Aalim se bacho, ye khabar jab Sayyiduna Umar bin Al-Khattab (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ko pahunchi to unhain likha aur wo Sayyiduna Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) us se dar gaye, poocha Faasiq Aalim se tumhari murad kya hai? Haram ne jawab diya: Wallahi Ya Amir-ul-Momineen! meri murad us se khair hi thi, koi Imam aisa hota hai ki ilm ki baat to karta hai lekin kaam fisq o fujoor ke karta hai, aur logon ko shak mein daal deta hai, pas wo gumrah ho jate hain.
(حديث موقوف) أَخْبَرَنَا أَخْبَرَنَا بِشْرُ بْنُ الْحَكَمِ، حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الصَّمَدِ الْعَمِّيُّ، حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عِمْرَانَ الْجَوْنِيُّ، عَنْ هَرِمِ بْنِ حَيَّانَ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ:"إِيَّاكُمْ وَالْعَالِمَ الْفَاسِقَ، فَبَلَغَ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ، فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ وَأَشْفَقَ مِنْهَا، مَا الْعَالِمُ الْفَاسِقُ؟، قَالَ: فَكَتَبَ إِلَيْهِ هَرِمٌ: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، وَاللَّهِ مَا أَرَدْتُ بِهِ إِلَّا الْخَيْرَ: يَكُونُ إِمَامٌ يَتَكَلَّمُ بِالْعِلْمِ، وَيَعْمَلُ بِالْفِسْقِ، فَيُشَبِّهُ عَلَى النَّاسِ، فَيَضِلُّونَ".
