Amr bin Qais said: On the death of Muawiyah, may Allah be pleased with him, I went to Hawarin with my father to offer condolences and congratulations on the caliphate to Yazid bin Muawiyah, when we saw a man in the mosque saying: Beware! It is one of the signs of the Hour that evil people will rise and good people will be brought low. Listen! It is one of the signs of the Hour that speech will be uttered and action will be kept secret. Listen! It is one of the signs of the Hour that "Muthana" (secondary book) will be read and no one will change it. It was asked: What is this "Muthana"? He said: To ask for the writing of any book besides the Qur'an. Therefore, hold fast to the Qur'an. It is through it that you have been guided, and it is through it that you will be rewarded, and it is about it that you will be questioned. I did not recognize who this man was. Then I narrated this hadith in Hims, and a man from the gathering said to me: Do you not recognize him? I said: No. So he said: He was Abdullah bin Amr bin Al-Aas, may Allah be pleased with him.

عمرو بن قیس نے کہا: سیدنا معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ کی وفات پر میں اپنے والد کے ساتھ تعزیت اور خلافت کی مبارکباد دینے کے لئے یزید بن معاویہ کے پاس حوارّین گیا، کیا دیکھتے ہیں کہ ان کی مسجد میں ایک آدمی کہہ رہا ہے: خبردار دیکھو! قیامت کی نشانیوں میں سے یہ ہے کہ اشرار سر چڑھائے جائیں گے اور اخیار (اچھے لوگ) گرائے جائیں گے، سنو! قیامت کی نشانیوں میں سے ہے کہ قول کا اظہار ہو گا اور عمل محفوظ رہے گا۔ سنو! اشراط ساعۃ میں سے ہے کہ ”مثناة“ (ثانوی کتاب) پڑھی جائے گی اور کوئی اس میں تغیر کرنے والا نہ ہو گا، عرض کیا گیا: یہ ”مثناة“ کیا ہے، فرمایا: قرآن کے علاوہ کسی کتاب لکھنے کی درخواست کرنا، لہٰذا تم قرآن کو ہی تھامے رکھنا، اسی کے ذریعہ تم کو ہدایت ملی ہے، اور اسی کے ذریعہ تم کو اجر ملے گا، اور اس کے بارے میں تم سے پوچھا جائے گا۔ میں نے نہیں پہچانا کہ یہ کون آدمی ہیں؟ پھر میں نے یہ حدیث حمص میں بیان کی تو جماعت کے ایک آدمی نے مجھ سے کہا کہ تم انہیں پہچانتے نہیں؟ میں نے کہا: نہیں، تو انہوں نے کہا: یہ سیدنا عبداللہ بن عمرو بن العاص رضی اللہ عنہ تھے۔

(حديث مقطوع) أَخْبَرَنَا الْوَلِيدُ بْنُ هِشَامٍ، حَدَّثَنَا الْحَارِثُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ الْحِمْصِيُّ، عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ قَيْسٍ، قَالَ: وَفَدْتُ مَعَ أَبِي إِلَى يَزِيدَ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ بِحُوَّارَيْنَ حِينَ تُوُفِّيَ مُعَاوِيَةُ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ نُعَزِّيهِ، وَنُهَنِّيهِ بِالْخِلَافَةِ، فَإِذَا رَجُلٌ فِي مَسْجِدِهَا، يَقُولُ: "أَلَا إِنَّ مِنْ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ أَنْ تُرْفَعَ الْأَشْرَارُ، ويُوضَعُ الْأَخْيَارُ، أَلَا إِنَّ مِنْ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ أَنْ يَظْهَرَ الْقَوْلُ وَيُخْزَنَ الْعَمَلُ، أَلَا إِنَّ مِنْ أَشْرَاطِ السَّاعَةِ أَنْ تُتْلَى الْمَثْنَاةُ، فَلَا يُوجَدُ مَنْ يُغَيِّرُهَا، قِيلَ لَهُ: وَمَا الْمَثْنَاةُ؟، قَالَ: مَا اسْتُكْتِبَ مِنْ كِتَابٍ غَيْرِ الْقُرْآنِ، فَعَلَيْكُمْ بِالْقُرْآنِ فَبِهِ هُدِيتُمْ، وَبِهِ تُجْزَوْنَ، وَعَنْهُ تُسْأَلُونَ"، فَلَمْ أَدْرِ مَنْ الرَّجُلُ، فَحَدَّثْتُ هذَا الْحَدِيثِ بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ بِحِمْصَ، فَقَالَ لِي رَجُلٌ مِنْ الْقَوْمِ: أَوَ مَا تَعْرِفُهُ؟، قُلْتُ: لَا، قَالَ: ذَلِكَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَمْرٍو رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُمَا.
