Sunan al-Darimi 651
'Aun bin Abdullah said: I do not like that the companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him, should not have differences of opinion, for if they agreed upon something and a man abandoned it, it would be as if he abandoned the Sunnah, and if they differed and a man followed the opinion of any of these companions, then he would (as if) be following the Sunnah.

عون بن عبداللہ نے کہا: مجھے پسند نہیں کہ اصحاب رسول اللہ ﷺ اختلاف نہ کریں، اس لئے کہ اگر انہوں نے کسی چیز پر اجماع کر لیا اور وہ چیز کسی آدمی نے ترک کی تو گویا اس نے سنت ترک کر دی، اور اگر وہ اختلاف کریں اور کوئی آدمی ان صحابہ میں سے کسی کے بھی قول پر عمل پیرا ہوا تو (گویا) اس نے سنت ہی پر عمل کیا۔
Aun bin Abdullah ne kaha: mujhe pasand nahin ki ashaab rasool Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) ikhtilaf na karen, is liye ki agar unhon ne kisi cheez par ijmaa kar liya aur woh cheez kisi aadmi ne tark ki to goya us ne sunnat tark kar di, aur agar woh ikhtilaf karen aur koi aadmi un sahaba mein se kisi ke bhi qaul par amal peira hua to (goya) us ne sunnat hi par amal kiya.
(حديث مقطوع) أَخْبَرَنَا يَزِيدُ، عَنْ الْمَسْعُودِيِّ، عَنْ عَوْنِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، قَالَ: "مَا أُحِبُّ أَنَّ أَصْحَابَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ لَمْ يَخْتَلِفُوا، فَإِنَّهُمْ لَوْ اجْتَمَعُوا عَلَى شَيْءٍ، فَتَرَكَهُ رَجُلٌ، تَرَكَ السُّنَّةَ، وَلَوْ اخْتَلَفُوا، فَأَخَذَ رَجُلٌ بِقَوْلِ أَحَدٍ، أَخَذَ بِالسُّنَّةِ".
