Chapter: Concerning women taking a bath to cleanse themselves from sexual impurity

باب مَا جَاءَ فِي غُسْلِ النِّسَاءِ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ

Sunan Ibn Majah 603

It was narrated that Ummul Momineen Umm Salamah (رضي الله تعالى عنها) said : 'I said, O Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم)! I am a woman with tight braids. Should I undo them when I take a bath to cleanse myself from the state of sexual impurity?' He said : 'Rather it is sufficient for you to pour three handfuls of water over yourself, and you will be purified,' or he said : 'In that case you would have become purified.'

ام المؤمنین ام سلمہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہ میں نے عرض کیا: اللہ کے رسول! میں چوٹی کو مضبوطی سے باندھنے والی عورت ہوں، کیا اسے غسل جنابت کے لیے کھولوں؟ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا: تمہیں یہی کافی ہے کہ تین چلو پانی لے کر اپنے سر پر بہا لو پھر پورے بدن پر پانی ڈالو، پاک ہو جاؤ گی ، یا آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا کہ: اس وقت تم پاک ہو گئیں ۔

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْمَقْبُرِيِّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ رَافِعٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أُمِّ سَلَمَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ قُلْتُ:‏‏‏‏ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ أَشُدُّ ضَفْرَ رَأْسِي أَفَأَنْقُضُهُ لِغُسْلِ الْجَنَابَةِ؟ فَقَالَ:‏‏‏‏ إِنَّمَا يَكْفِيكِ أَنْ تَحْثِي عَلَيْهِ ثَلَاثَ حَثَيَاتٍ مِنْ مَاءٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏ثُمَّ تُفِيضِي عَلَيْكِ مِنَ الْمَاءِ فَتَطْهُرِينَ أَوْ قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ فَإِذَا أَنْتِ قَدْ طَهُرْتِ .

Sunan Ibn Majah 604

It was narrated that 'Ubaid bin 'Umair said, Ummul Momineen Aisha (رضي الله تعالى عنها) heard that 'Abdullah bin 'Amr () was telling his wives to undo their braids (when they bathed). She said : 'How odd that Ibn 'Amr (رضي الله تعالى عنه) would do that! Why does he not tell them to shave their heads? The Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) and I used to bathe from a single vessel, and I never did more than pour three handfuls of water over my head.'

عبید بن عمیر کہتے ہیں کہ ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کو یہ خبر پہنچی کہ عبداللہ بن عمرو رضی اللہ عنہما اپنی بیویوں کو غسل کے وقت چوٹی کھولنے کا حکم دیتے ہیں، تو فرمایا: عبداللہ بن عمرو پر تعجب ہے، وہ عورتوں کو سر منڈانے کا حکم کیوں نہیں دے دیتے، بیشک میں اور رسول اللہ ﷺ ایک ہی برتن سے غسل کیا کرتے تھے، میں اپنے سر پر تین چلو سے زیادہ پانی نہیں ڈالتی تھی۔

Ubaid bin Umayr kehte hain ke Am ul Momineen Ayesha radiyallahu anha ko yeh khabar pahunchi ke Abdullah bin Amr ( (رضي الله تعالى عنه) a apni biwiyon ko ghusl ke waqt chotti kholne ka hukm dete hain, to farmaaya: Abdullah bin Amr par taajjub hai, woh auraton ko sar mundane ka hukm kyun nahi de dete, beshak mein aur Rasoolullah salallahu alaihi wasallam ek hi bartan se ghusl kiya karte the, mein apne sar par teen chalo se zyada pani nahi dalti thi.

حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيل ابْنُ عُلَيَّةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَيُّوبَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِي الزُّبَيْرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَيْدِ بْنِ عُمَيْرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بَلَغَ عَائِشَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنَّ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ عَمْرٍو، ‏‏‏‏‏‏يَأْمُرُ نِسَاءَهُ إِذَا اغْتَسَلْنَ أَنْ يَنْقُضْنَ رُءُوسَهُنَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَقَالَتْ:‏‏‏‏ يَا عَجَبًا لِابْنِ عَمْرٍو هَذَا، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَفَلَا يَأْمُرُهُنَّ أَنْ يَحْلِقْنَ رُءُوسَهُنَّ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏لَقَدْ كُنْتُ أَنَا وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَغْتَسِلُ مِنْ إِنَاءٍ وَاحِدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَلَا أَزِيدُ عَلَى أَنْ أُفْرِغَ عَلَى رَأْسِي ثَلَاثَ إِفْرَاغَاتٍ .
