Chapter: What was narrated concerning the recitation in the ‘Eid Prayers

باب مَا جَاءَ فِي الْقِرَاءَةِ فِي صَلاَةِ الْعِيدَيْنِ

Sunan Ibn Majah 1281

It was narrated from Nu’man bin Bashir (رضي الله تعالى عنه) that the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to recite “Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High,” [Al-A’la (Sura - 87)] and “Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming?” [Al-Ghashiyah (Sura - 88)] in the ‘Eid prayer.


Grade: Sahih

نعمان بن بشیر رضی اللہ عنہما سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ ﷺ عیدین کی نماز میں «سبح اسم ربك الأعلى»اور«هل أتاك حديث الغاشية»پڑھتے تھے۔

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ الْمُنْتَشِرِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ أَبِيهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ حَبِيبِ بْنِ سَالِمٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ:‏‏‏‏ كَانَ يَقْرَأُ فِي الْعِيدَيْنِ بِسَبِّحِ اسْمَ رَبِّكَ الْأَعْلَى وَهَلْ أَتَاكَ حَدِيثُ الْغَاشِيَةِ .

Sunan Ibn Majah 1282

It was narrated that ‘Ubaidullah bin ‘Abdullah said: “Umar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) went out on the day of ‘Eid and sent word to Abu Waqid Al-Laithi asking what the Apostle of Allah (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) used to recite on this day. He said: ‘Qaf [Qaf (Sura - 50)] and ‘Iqtarabat’.” [Al-Qamar (Sura - 54)]

عبیداللہ بن عبداللہ کہتے ہیں کہ عمر رضی اللہ عنہ عید کے دن نکلے تو ابوواقد لیثی رضی اللہ عنہ کے پاس یہ پوچھنے کے لیے انہوں نے آدمی بھیجا کہ نبی اکرم ﷺ اس دن نماز عید میں کون سی سورۃ پڑھتے تھے، تو انہوں نے کہا: سورۃ «قٓ» اور«اقتربت الساعۃ»۔

Ubaidullah bin Abdullah kehte hain ke Omar (رضي الله تعالى عنه) Eid ke din nikle to Abu Waqid Laithi (رضي الله تعالى عنه) ke pas yeh poochhne ke liye unhon ne aadmi bheja ke Nabi Akram (صلى الله عليه وآله وسلم) is din namaz Eid mein kon si surat padhte the, to unhon ne kaha: Surat «Qaa» aur «Aqtarabat al-Sa'ah».

حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الصَّبَّاحِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏أَنْبَأَنَا سُفْيَانُ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ ضَمْرَةَ بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ خَرَجَ عُمَرُ يَوْمَ عِيدٍ، ‏‏‏‏‏‏فَأَرْسَلَ إِلَى أَبِي وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ بِأَيِّ شَيْءٍ كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقْرَأُ فِي مِثْلِ هَذَا الْيَوْمِ؟، ‏‏‏‏‏‏قَالَ:‏‏‏‏ بِـقَ وَاقْتَرَبَتْ .

It was narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas (رضي الله تعالى عنه) that the Apostle of Allah ( صلى هللا عليه و آله وسلم) used to recite in the ‘Eid prayer “Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Most High.” [Al-A’la (Sura - 87)] and “Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming?” [Al-Ghashiyah (Sura - 88)]
