It is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to recite (silently, secretly) in the Zuhr prayer and sometimes he would let us hear a verse or two. He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to make the first rak'ah longer. Imam Abu Bakr (may Allah have mercy on him) said that it is narrated on the authority of Sayyiduna Zayd bin Thabit (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) used to move his blessed lips. And in the narration of Sayyiduna Khabab (may Allah be pleased with him), it is stated that we used to recognize the recitation of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) by the movement of his beard." This is proof that you used to recite silently in the Zuhr and Asr prayers. I have mentioned the narrations of both the Sahabah (may Allah be pleased with them) in the chapter on recitation in the book of prayer.

سیدنا ابوقتادہ رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نماز ظہر میں (سری، مخفی) قراءت کرتے تھے اور بعض اوقات ہمیں ایک آدھ آیت سنا دیتے تھے۔ آپ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پہلی رکعت کو طویل ادا کرتے تھے۔ امام ابوبکر رحمه الله فرماتے ہیں کہ سیدنا زید بن ثابت رضی اللہ عنہ کی روایت میں ہے کہ نبی اکرم صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم پنے ہونٹ مبارک ہلاتے تھے۔ اور سیدنا خباب رضی اللہ عنہ کی روایت میں ہے کہ ہم رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم کی قراءت کو آپ کی ڈاڑھی کی حرکت سے جانتے تھے۔“ یہ اس بات کی دلیل ہے کہ آپ ظہر اور عصر کی نمازوں میں مخفی قراءت کرتے تھے۔ میں نے دونوں صحابہ رضی اللہ عنہما کی روایات کو کتاب الصلاۃ کے ابواب القراءۃ میں بیان کیا ہے .
Sayyidina Abu Qatadah Razi Allah Anhu se riwayat hai ki Rasul Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam Namaz Zuhr mein (siri, makhfi) qirat karte thay aur baz auqat humain ek aadh ayat suna dete thay. Aap Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam pehli rakat ko taweel ada karte thay. Imam Abu Bakr Rahmatullah Alaih farmate hain ki Sayyidina Zaid bin Sabit Razi Allah Anhu ki riwayat mein hai ki Nabi Akram Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam apne hont mubarak hilate thay. Aur Sayyidina Khubab Razi Allah Anhu ki riwayat mein hai ki hum Rasul Allah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam ki qirat ko Aap ki darhi ki harkat se jante thay. Yeh iss baat ki daleel hai ki Aap Zuhr aur Asr ki namaazon mein makhfi qirat karte thay. Maine dono Sahabah Razi Allah Anhuma ki riwayat ko kitab assalat ke abwab alqira'at mein bayan kya hai.
نا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ ، نا يَحْيَى ، نا هِشَامٌ ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ أَبِي كَثِيرٍ ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أَبِي قَتَادَةَ ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ ، أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ" يَقْرَأُ فِي الظُّهْرِ، وَرُبَّمَا أَسْمَعَنَا الآيَةَ أَحْيَانًا، وَيُطِيلُ الرَّكْعَةَ الأُولَى" . قَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: فِي خَبَرِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ: كَانَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" يُحَرِّكُ شَفَتَيْهِ"، وَفِي خَبَرِ خَبَّابٍ: كُنَّا نَعْرِفُ قِرَاءَةَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ" بِاضْطِرَابِ لِحْيَتِهِ"، دَلِيلٌ عَلَى أَنَّهُ كَانَ يُخَافِتُ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ فِي الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ. خَرَّجْتُ خَبَرَهُمَا فِي كِتَابِ الصَّلاةِ فِي أَبْوَابِ الْقِرَاءَةِ
