Explanation of straightening the rows in prayer
بيان تسوية الصفوف

An-Nu‘man b. Bashir said:God’s Messenger used to straighten our rows as if he were trying to make them as straight as arrows until he saw that we had learned it from him. One day he came out, stood up, and was just about to say God is most great ’ when he saw a man whose chest projected from the row, so he said, “Servants of God, you must straighten your rows, or God will certainly put your faces in contrary directions."* * The use of “faces” here may mean the people themselves and their inner nature. The tradition may refer to civil strife, which is possibly the meaning of the tradition below from Abu Mas'ud. Muslim transmitted it.

نعمان بن بشیر ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، رسول اللہ ﷺ ہماری صفوں کو ایسا برابر کیا کرتے تھے گویا ان کے ساتھ تیروں کو برابر کرتے ہوں ، حتیٰ کہ آپ نے سمجھ لیا کہ ہم آپ سے سیکھ چکے ہیں ۔ پھر ایک روز آپ تشریف لائے تو کھڑے ہو گئے ، قریب تھا کہ آپ تکبیر کہتے کہ آپ نے ایک آدمی کو دیکھا ، اس کا سینہ صف سے باہر نکلا ہوا ہے ، تو آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ اللہ کے بندو ! صفیں برابر کیا کرو ، ورنہ اللہ تمہارے اندر اختلاف پیدا فرما دے گا ۔‘‘ رواہ مسلم ۔
Nauman bin Bashir RA bayan karte hain, Rasool Allah SAW hamari safo ko aisa barabar kiya karte the goya un ke sath teeron ko barabar karte hon, hatta ke aap ne samjh liya ke hum aap se seekh chuke hain. Phir ek roz aap tashreef laye to kharay ho gaye, qareeb tha ke aap takbeer kehte ke aap ne ek aadmi ko dekha, us ka seena saf se bahar nikla hua hai, to aap SAW ne farmaya: ''Allah ke bando! Safein barabar kiya karo, warna Allah tumhare andar ikhtilaf paida farma de ga.'' Riwayat Muslim.
عَن النُّعْمَانِ بْنِ بَشِيرٍ قَالَ: كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يُسَوِّي صُفُوفَنَا حَتَّى كَأَنَّمَا يُسَوِّي بِهَا الْقِدَاحَ حَتَّى رَأَى أَنَّا قَدْ عَقَلْنَا عَنْهُ ثُمَّ خَرَجَ يَوْمًا فَقَامَ حَتَّى كَادَ أَنْ يُكَبِّرَ فَرَأَى رَجُلًا بَادِيًا صَدْرُهُ مِنَ الصَّفِّ فَقَالَ: «عِبَادَ اللَّهِ لَتُسَوُّنَّ صُفُوفَكُمْ أَوْ لَيُخَالِفَنَّ اللَّهُ بَيْنَ وُجُوهِكُمْ» . رَوَاهُ مُسلم
