Description of Witr prayer

Mishkat al-Masabih 1263
Ghudaif b. al-Harith said:I asked ‘A’isha whether she had seen God’s Messenger bathing because of sexual defilement in the early or the latter part of the night, and she replied, ‘‘He often bathed in the early part of the night and often in the latter part.” Thereupon I said, "God is most great. Praise be to God who has given latitude in the matter! ” I then asked whether he observed awitrin the early or the latter part of the night, and she replied, "He often observed it in the early part and often in the latter part of the night.” Thereupon I said, “God is most great. Praise be to God who has given latitude in the matter! ” I then asked whether he recited the Qur’an in a loud or in a low voice, and she replied, “He often recited it in a loud voice and often in a low voice.” Thereupon I said, “God is most great. Praise be to God who has given latitude in the matter!” Abu Dawud transmitted it, and Ibn Majah transmitted the last section.

غضیف بن حارث ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، میں نے عائشہ ؓ سے عرض کیا ، مجھے بتائیں ، رسول اللہ ﷺ غسل جنابت رات کے اول حصے میں کرتے تھے یا رات کے آخری حصے میں ؟ انہوں نے فرمایا : کبھی رات کے پہلے حصے میں غسل کیا اور کبھی رات کے پچھلے حصے میں ، میں نے کہا : اللہ اکبر ، ہر قسم کی تعریف اللہ کے لیے ہے جس نے دین میں وسعت رکھی ، میں نے پوچھا : آپ ﷺ رات کے اول حصے میں وتر پڑھا کرتے تھے یا رات کے آخری حصے میں ؟ انہوں نے فرمایا : آپ نے کبھی رات کے اول حصے میں وتر پڑھے اور کبھی رات کے آخری حصے میں ، میں نے کہا : اللہ اکبر ، ہر قسم کی تعریف اللہ کے لیے ہے جس نے دین میں وسعت رکھی ، میں نے پوچھا : آپ ﷺ (نماز تہجد میں) بلند آواز سے قراءت کرتے تھے یا پست آواز سے ؟ انہوں نے فرمایا ، کبھی بلند آواز سے اور کبھی پست آواز سے ، میں نے کہا : اللہ اکبر ، ہر قسم کی تعریف اللہ کے لیے ہے جس نے دین میں وسعت رکھی ۔‘‘ ابوداؤد ، اور ابن ماجہ نے آخری بات روایت کی ہے ۔ اسنادہ حسن ، رواہ ابوداؤد و ابن ماجہ و النسائی ۔
Ghazeef bin Haris bayan karte hain, maine Ayesha se arz kiya, mujhe bataein, Rasul Allah ghusl janabat raat ke awal hisse mein karte thay ya raat ke aakhri hisse mein? Unhon ne farmaya: kabhi raat ke pehle hisse mein ghusl kiya aur kabhi raat ke pichhle hisse mein, maine kaha: Allah Akbar, har qisam ki tareef Allah ke liye hai jis ne deen mein wusat rakhi, maine poocha: Aap raat ke awal hisse mein witar parha karte thay ya raat ke aakhri hisse mein? Unhon ne farmaya: Aap ne kabhi raat ke awal hisse mein witar parhe aur kabhi raat ke aakhri hisse mein, maine kaha: Allah Akbar, har qisam ki tareef Allah ke liye hai jis ne deen mein wusat rakhi, maine poocha: Aap (namaz tahajjud mein) buland aawaz se qirat karte thay ya past aawaz se? Unhon ne farmaya, kabhi buland aawaz se aur kabhi past aawaz se, maine kaha: Allah Akbar, har qisam ki tareef Allah ke liye hai jis ne deen mein wusat rakhi. Abu Dawood, aur Ibn Majah ne aakhri baat riwayat ki hai. Isnaadahu hasan, riwayat Abu Dawood wa Ibn Majah wa al-Nisa'i.
عَن غُضَيْف بن الْحَارِث قَالَ: قُلْتُ لِعَائِشَةَ: أَرَأَيْتِ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ يَغْتَسِلُ مِنَ الْجَنَابَةِ فِي أَوَّلِ اللَّيْلِ أَمْ فِي آخِرِهِ؟ قَالَتْ: رُبَّمَا اغْتَسَلَ فِي أَوَّلِ اللَّيْلِ وَرُبَّمَا اغْتَسَلَ فِي آخِرِهِ قُلْتُ: اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الْأَمْرِ سَعَةً قُلْتُ: كَانَ يُوتِرُ أَوَّلَ اللَّيْلِ أَمْ فِي آخِرِهِ؟ قَالَتْ: رُبَّمَا أَوْتَرَ فِي أَوَّلِ اللَّيْلِ وَرُبَّمَا أَوْتَرَ فِي آخِرِهِ قُلْتُ: اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الْأَمْرِ سَعَةً قُلْتُ: كَانَ يَجْهَرُ بِالْقِرَاءَةِ أَمْ يَخْفُتُ؟ قَالَتْ: رُبَّمَا جَهَرَ بِهِ وَرُبَّمَا خَفَتَ قُلْتُ: اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ الَّذِي جَعَلَ فِي الْأَمْرِ سَعَةً. رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُدَ وَرَوَى ابْنُ مَاجَهْ الْفَصْلَ الْأَخِيرَ
