Umm 'Atiya said:God’s messenger came in where we were when we were washing his daughter and said, “Wash her with water and lotus leaves three or five times, or more than that if you think fit, and put camphor, or some camphor, in the last washing, then inform me when you are finished.” When we had finished we informed him, and he threw us his lower garment saying, “Put it next her body.” A version has, "Wash her an odd number of times, three, or five, or seven, beginning with the right side and the places where ablution is performed.” She said that they braided her hair in three plaits and placed them behind her back. (Bukharl and Muslim.)

ام عطیہ ؓ بیان کرتی ہیں ، رسول اللہ ﷺ ہمارے پاس تشریف لائے جبکہ ہم آپ کی بیٹی کو غسل دے رہی تھیں ، آپ نے فرمایا :’’ اسے تین یا پانچ مرتبہ یا اگر اس سے زیادہ مرتبہ تم ضرورت محسوس کرو تو پانی اور بیری کے پتوں سے غسل دو اور آخری مرتبہ کافور یا کافور جیسی کوئی چیز اس میں ملا لو ، جب تم فارغ ہو جاؤ تو مجھے مطلع کرنا ۔‘‘ جب ہم فارغ ہو گئیں تو ہم نے آپ کو مطلع کر دیا ، آپ ﷺ نے اپنی چادر ہماری طرف پھینک کر فرمایا اسے اس کے جسم پر ڈال دو ۔‘‘ (پھر اس چادر کے اوپر کفن پہناؤ) اور ایک روایت میں ہے :’’ اسے طاق عدد تین یا پانچ یا سات مرتبہ غسل دو ، دائیں طرف اور وضو کی جگہوں سے شروع کرو ۔‘‘ اور انہوں نے (یعنی ام عطیہ ؓ ) نے فرمایا : ہم نے اس کے بالوں کی تین چوٹیاں گوندھیں اور انہیں اس کے پیچھے ڈال دیا ۔ متفق علیہ ۔
Um Atiya bayan karti hain, Rasool Allah hamare pass tashreef laaye jabke hum aap ki beti ko ghusl de rahi thin, aap ne farmaya: ''Ise teen ya paanch martaba ya agar is se zyada martaba tum zaroorat mehsoos karo to pani aur beri ke patton se ghusl do aur aakhri martaba kafoor ya kafoor jaisi koi cheez is mein mila lo, jab tum faragh ho jao to mujhe mutla karna.'' Jab hum faragh ho gayin to hum ne aap ko mutla kar diya, aap ne apni chadar hamari taraf phenk kar farmaya ise is ke jism par daal do.'' (Phir is chadar ke upar kafan pehnao) Aur ek riwayat mein hai: ''Ise taaq adad teen ya paanch ya saat martaba ghusl do, daayen taraf aur wuzu ki jagahon se shuru karo.'' Aur unhon ne (yani Um Atiya) ne farmaya: Hum ne is ke baalon ki teen chotiyan gondhin aur inhen is ke peeche daal diya. Muttafiq alaih.
عَنْ أُمِّ عَطِيَّةَ قَالَتْ: دَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ وَنَحْنُ نُغَسِّلُ ابْنَتَهُ فَقَالَ: اغْسِلْنَهَا ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ أَكْثَرَ مِنْ ذَلِكِ إِنْ رَأَيْتُنَّ ذَلِكَ بِمَاءٍ وَسِدْرٍ وَاجْعَلْنَ فِي الْآخِرَةِ كَافُورًا أَوْ شَيْئًا مِنْ كَافُورٍ فَإِذَا فَرَغْتُنَّ فَآذِنَّنِي فَلَمَّا فَرَغْنَا آذناه فَألْقى إِلَيْنَا حقوه وَقَالَ: «أَشْعِرْنَهَا إِيَّاهُ» وَفِي رِوَايَةٍ: اغْسِلْنَهَا وِتْرًا: ثَلَاثًا أَوْ خَمْسًا أَوْ سَبْعًا وَابْدَأْنَ بِمَيَامِنِهَا وَمَوَاضِعِ الْوُضُوءِ مِنْهَا . وَقَالَتْ فَضَفَّرْنَا شَعَرَهَا ثَلَاثَةَ قُرُونٍ فألقيناها خلفهَا
