Kuraib the client of Ibn ‘Abbas told that a son of ‘Abdallah b. ‘Abbas died in Qudaid or ‘Usfan and he asked him to go out and see how many people had gathered for the funeral. Going out and finding that people had gathered for the funeral, he told him. Ibn ‘Abbas asked him if he thought there would be forty present, and when he replied that that was so, he gave orders for the body to be brought out, adding that he had heard God’s messenger say, "If any Muslim man dies and forty men who associate nothing with God stand over his bier, God will accept them as intercessors for him.” Muslim transmitted it.

ابن عباس ؓ کے آزاد کردہ غلام کریب ، ابن عباس ؓ سے روایت کرتے ہیں قدید یا عسفان کے مقام پر ان کا بیٹا فوت ہو گیا ۔ انہوں نے فرمایا : کریب ! دیکھو ، اس کے (جنازے) کے لیے کتنے لوگ جمع ہو چکے ہیں ؟ راوی بیان کرتے ہیں ، میں باہر آیا تو دیکھا کہ لوگ جمع ہو چکے تھے ، میں نے آپ کو بتایا تو انہوں نے پوچھا : وہ چالیس ہیں ؟ انہوں نے کہا : جی ہاں ، پھر ابن عباس ؓ نے فرمایا : اسے لے چلو ، کیونکہ میں نے رسول اللہ ﷺ کو فرماتے ہوئے سنا :’’ جو مسلمان فوت ہو جائے اور پھر چالیس موحّد (جو اللہ کا شریک نہیں ٹھہراتے) اس کی نماز جنازہ پڑھ لیں تو اللہ اس شخص کے بارے میں ان کی شفاعت قبول فرماتا ہے ۔‘‘ رواہ مسلم ۔
Ibn Abbas RA ke aazaad kardah ghulam Kareeb, Ibn Abbas RA se riwayat karte hain Qadeed ya Asfan ke maqam par un ka beta foot ho gaya. Unhon ne farmaya: Kareeb! Dekho, is ke (janaze) ke liye kitne log jama ho chuke hain? Ravi bayan karte hain, main bahar aaya to dekha ke log jama ho chuke the, main ne aap ko bataya to unhon ne poocha: Woh chalis hain? Unhon ne kaha: Ji haan, phir Ibn Abbas RA ne farmaya: Ise le chalo, kyunki main ne Rasul Allah SAW ko farmate huye suna: ''Jo musalman foot ho jaye aur phir chalis mohad (jo Allah ka sharik nahi thahraate) is ki namaz janaza parh len to Allah is shakhs ke baare mein un ki shafaat qubool farmata hai.'' وَعَنْ كُرَيْبٍ مَوْلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ أَنَّهُ مَاتَ لَهُ ابْنٌ بِقُدَيْدٍ أَوْ بِعُسْفَانَ فَقَالَ: يَا كُرَيْبُ انْظُرْ مَا اجْتَمَعَ لَهُ مِنَ النَّاسِ قَالَ: فَخَرَجْتُ فَإِذَا نَاسٌ قَدِ اجْتَمَعُوا لَهُ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ: تَقُولُ: هُمْ أَرْبَعُونَ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ. قَالَ: أَخْرِجُوهُ فَإِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: «مَا مِنْ رَجُلٍ مُسْلِمٍ يَمُوتُ فَيَقُومُ عَلَى جَنَازَتِهِ أَرْبَعُونَ رَجُلًا لَا يُشْرِكُونَ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا إِلَّا شَفَّعَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِيهِ» . رَوَاهُ مُسلم\
