Ibn ‘Abbas told how, when this verse was revealed, "And those who hoard gold and silver…”* the Muslims were grieved about it and ‘Umar told them he would dispel their care. He therefore went and told God’s Prophet that his companions were grieved by this verse, and received the reply, "God has made thezakatobligatory simply to purify your remaining property, and He made inheritances obligatory (mentioning a word)** that they might come to those who survive you.” 'Umar then said, "God is most great,” after which he said to him, "Let me inform you about the best a man hoards; it is a virtuous woman who pleases him when he looks at her, obeys him when he gives her a command, and guards his interests when he is away from her." Abu Dawud transmitted it. * Qur'an 9: 34. ** i.e. a word about which Ibn ‘Abbas was uncertain.

ابن عباس ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، جب یہ آیت :’’ جو لوگ سونا چاندی ذخیرہ کرتے ہیں ،،،،،،‘‘ نازل ہوئی تو یہ مسلمانوں پر بہت گراں گزری ، تو عمر ؓ نے فرمایا : میں تمہاری اس مشکل کو حل کرتا ہوں ، وہ گئے اور عرض کیا ، اللہ کے نبی ! یہ آیت آپ کے صحابہ پر بہت گراں گزری ہے ، آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ اللہ نے زکوۃ اس لیے فرض کی ہے تاکہ وہ تمہارے باقی اموال کو پاک کر دے ، اور اس نے وراثت کو اس لیے فرض کیا ۔‘‘ راوی کہتے ہیں : آپ نے ایک کلمہ ذکر کیا :’’ تاکہ وہ تمہارے بعد والوں کے لیے ہو جائے ۔‘‘ راوی بیان کرتے ہیں ، عمر ؓ نے (خوشی کے ساتھ) نعرہ تکبیر بلند کیا ، پھر آپ ﷺ نے انہیں فرمایا :’’ کیا میں تمہیں آدمی کے بہترین خزانے کے متعلق نہ بتاؤں ؟ وہ صالحہ بیوی ہے ، جب وہ اس کی طرف دیکھے تو وہ اسے خوش کر دے ، جب وہ اسے حکم دے تو وہ اس کی اطاعت کرے اور جب وہ اس کے پاس نہ ہو تو وہ اس (کے تمام حقوق ) کی حفاظت کرے ۔‘‘ ضعیف ۔
Ibn Abbas bayan karte hain, jab yeh aayat: ''Jo log sona chandi zakhira karte hain,,,,,'' nazil hui to yeh Musalmanon par bahut giran guzri, to Umar ne farmaya: Mein tumhari is mushkil ko hal karta hun, woh gaye aur arz kiya, Allah ke Nabi! Yeh aayat aap ke sahaba par bahut giran guzri hai, aap ne farmaya: ''Allah ne zakat is liye farz ki hai taake woh tumhare baqi amwal ko pak kar de, aur usne warasat ko is liye farz kiya.'' Rawi kahte hain: Aap ne ek kalma zikar kiya: ''Taake woh tumhare bad walon ke liye ho jaye.'' Rawi bayan karte hain, Umar ne (khushi ke sath) nara e takbeer buland kiya, phir aap ne unhen farmaya: ''Kya mein tumhen aadmi ke behtarin khazane ke mutalliq na bataun? Woh saliha biwi hai, jab woh uski taraf dekhe to woh use khush kar de, jab woh use hukum de to woh uski itaat kare aur jab woh uske pass na ho to woh us (ke tamam huqooq) ki hifazat kare.'' Zaeef.
عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ (وَالَّذِينَ يَكْنِزُونَ الذَّهَبَ وَالْفِضَّةَ)\كَبُرَ ذَلِكَ عَلَى الْمُسْلِمِينَ. فَقَالَ عُمَرُ أَنَا أُفَرِّجُ عَنْكُمْ فَانْطَلَقَ. فَقَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللَّهِ قد كبر على أَصْحَابك هَذِه الْآيَة. فَقَالَ نَبِيُّ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ اللَّهَ لم يفْرض الزَّكَاة إِلَّا ليطيب بهَا مَا بَقِيَ مِنْ أَمْوَالِكُمْ وَإِنَّمَا فَرَضَ الْمَوَارِيثَ وَذكر كلمة لتَكون لمن بعدكم» قَالَ فَكَبَّرَ عُمَرُ. ثُمَّ قَالَ لَهُ: «أَلَا أُخْبِرُكَ بِخَيْرِ مَا يَكْنِزُ الْمَرْءُ الْمَرْأَةُ الصَّالِحَةُ إِذَا نَظَرَ إِلَيْهَا سَرَّتْهُ وَإِذَا أَمَرَهَا أَطَاعَتْهُ وَإِذَا غَابَ عَنْهَا حفظته» . رَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُد\
