Description of seeking forgiveness (Istighfar) and repentance (Taubah)
بيان الاستغفار والتوبة
Mishkat al-Masabih 2345
Safwan b. ‘Assal reported God’s messenger as saying, “God most high has placed in the west for repentance a gate with a breadth of seventy years’ journey, and it will not be locked as long the sun does not rise in its direction. That agrees with God’s words, ‘On the day that certain of the signs of your Lord come, a soul which has not believed before will not be benefited by believing in them ’.”* *Qur’an, vi, 158 Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah transmitted it.

صفوان بن عسال ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ اللہ تعالیٰ نے مغرب کی طرف توبہ کے لئے ایک دروازہ بنایا جس کا عرض ستر سال کی مسافت کے برابر ہے ، اور جب تک سورج اس کی طرف سے طلوع نہیں ہوتا وہ (باب التوبہ) کھلا ہوا ہے ، اور یہی وہ اللہ عزوجل کا فرمان ہے :’’ جس روز تیرے رب کی بعض نشانیاں آ جائیں گی تو کسی نفس کا اس وقت ایمان لانا فائدہ مند نہیں ہو گا جو پہلے ایمان نہیں لایا تھا ۔‘‘ حسن ، رواہ الترمذی (۳۵۳۶) و ابن ماجہ (۴۰۷۰) ۔
Safwan bin Asal بیان کرتے ہیں ، رسول اللہ نے فرمایا :’’ Allah Taala ne Maghrib ki taraf toba ke liye ek darwaza banaya jis ka arz sattar saal ki musafat ke barabar hai ، aur jab tak Suraj us ki taraf se talu nahin hota woh (baab-ut-taubah) khula hua hai ، aur yahi woh Allah Azzawajal ka farman hai :’’ Jis roz tere Rab ki baaz nishaniyan aa jayengi to kisi nafs ka us waqt iman lana faidamand nahin hoga jo pehle iman nahin laya tha ۔‘‘ Hasan ، riwayat Tirmidhi (3536) wa Ibn Majah (4070) ۔.
وَعَنْ صَفْوَانَ بْنِ عَسَّالٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: إِنَّ اللَّهَ تَعَالَى جَعَلَ بِالْمَغْرِبِ بَابًا عَرْضُهُ مَسِيرَةُ سَبْعِينَ عَامًا لِلتَّوْبَةِ لَا يُغْلَقُ مَا لم تطلع عَلَيْهِ الشَّمْسُ مِنْ قِبَلِهِ وَذَلِكَ قَوْلُ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ: (يَوْمَ يَأْتِي بَعْضُ آيَاتِ رَبِّكَ لَا يَنْفَعُ نَفْسًا إِيمَانُهَا لَمْ تَكُنْ آمَنَتْ مِنْ قبل)\رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيّ وَابْن مَاجَه\
