Abu Qatada said:We went out with God’s Messenger in the year of Hunain, and when the armies met, the Muslims suffered a reverse. I saw one of the polytheists getting the better of one of the Muslims, so I struck him with my sword from behind on his shoulder-blade and cut his coat of mail. He came at me and closed with me, so that I felt death was near, but he was overtaken by death and let me go. I then caught up on ‘Umar b. al-Khattab and asked him what was the matter with the people, to which he replied that it was what God had commanded.1 Then they returned and the Prophet sat down and said, "If anyone kills a man and can prove it he will get his spoil.” I said, "Who will testify for me?” and then sat down. The Prophet said the same again and I said, "Who will testify for me?”2 and then sat down. Again the Prophet said the same and I stood up He asked, "What is the matter with you, Qatada?” and when I informed him a man said, "He has spoken the truth. I have his spoil, so make him agreeable to take something in exchange.” Abu Bakr said, “In that case I swear by God that he did not do so. One of God’s heroes3 does not fight for God and His Messenger and then give you his spoil.” The Prophet said he had spoken the truth and told the man to hand it over to me. He did so, and I bought a garden among the B. Salima. This was the first property I acquired in the Islamic period. 1. He wondered why the Muslims had fled from the enemy, and 'Umar replied that it was what God had decreed. 2. There is doubt as to whether Abu Qatada spoke aloud the first two times, or inwardly. In the translation I have kept strictly to the wording in the Arabic. (Bukhari and Muslim.)

ابوقتادہ ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، غزوہ حنین کے سال ہم نبی ﷺ کے ساتھ نکلے ، جب ہم (مشرکین سے) ملے تو مسلمانوں کو ہزیمت کا سامنا ہوا ، میں نے ایک مشرک شخص کو دیکھا جو ایک مسلمان شخص پر غالب آ چکا تھا ، میں نے اس کے پیچھے سے اس کی رگ گردن پر تلوار ماری اور اس کی زرہ کاٹ دی ، وہ میری طرف متوجہ ہوا تو اس نے مجھے اس قدر دبایا کہ مجھے اس کے (دبانے) سے اپنی موت نظر آنے لگی ، لیکن موت اس پر آ گئی اور اس نے مجھے چھوڑ دیا ، میں عمر بن خطاب ؓ سے ملا تو میں نے کہا : لوگوں کا کیا حال ہے ؟ انہوں نے کہا : اللہ کا حکم (ہی ایسے تھا) ، پھر وہ (مسلمان) لوٹے اور نبی ﷺ بیٹھ گئے تو فرمایا :’’ جس نے کسی مقتول کو قتل کیا اور اس پر اس کے پاس دلیل ہو تو اس (مقتول) کا سازو سامان اس (قاتل) کے لیے ہے ۔‘‘ میں نے کہا : میرے حق میں کون گواہی دے گا ؟ پھر میں بیٹھ گیا ، نبی ﷺ نے پھر وہی بات فرمائی ، میں نے کہا : میرے حق میں کون گواہی دے گا ؟ پھر میں بیٹھ گیا ، پھر نبی ﷺ نے وہی بات فرمائی تو میں کھڑا ہوا ، آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ ابوقتادہ ! تمہارا کیا مسئلہ ہے ؟‘‘ میں نے آپ کو بتایا تو ایک شخص نے کہا ’’ اس نے سچ کہا ، اور اس کا سازو سامان میرے پاس ہے اسے میری طرف سے راضی کر دیں ۔ (اور مال میرے پاس ہی رہنے دیں) ابوبکر ؓ نے فرمایا : ایسا ہرگز نہیں ہو سکتا کہ اللہ کا شیر جو اللہ اور اس کے رسول کی طرف سے قتال کرتا ہے ، اور آپ ﷺ اس کا سازو سامان تجھے دیں گے ، تب نبی ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ ابوبکر ؓ نے سچ کہا ، پس اسے دو ۔‘‘ چنانچہ اس نے اسے مجھے دے دیا ، میں نے اس سے بنو سلمہ میں ایک باغ خریدا ، اور یہ پہلا مال تھا جو میں نے حالتِ اسلام میں جمع کیا تھا ۔ متفق علیہ ۔
AbuQatada بیان karte hain, Ghazwah Hunain ke saal hum Nabi ﷺ ke sath nikle, jab hum (mushrikeen se) mile to Musalmanon ko hazimat ka saamna hua, maine ek mushrik shakhs ko dekha jo ek Musalman shakhs par ghalib aa chuka tha, maine uske peeche se uski rag garden par talwar maari aur uski zirah kaat di, woh meri taraf mutawajjah hua to usne mujhe is qadar dabaya ki mujhe uske (dabane) se apni maut nazar aane lagi, lekin maut us par aa gayi aur usne mujhe chhor diya, main Umar bin Khattab se mila to maine kaha: logon ka kya haal hai? Unhon ne kaha: Allah ka hukm (hi aise tha), phir woh (Musalman) lautے aur Nabi ﷺ baith gaye to farmaya: ''Jisne kisi maqtool ko qatl kiya aur us par uske pass daleel ho to us (maqtool) ka sazo-saman us (qaatil) ke liye hai.'' Maine kaha: mere haq mein kaun gawahi dega? Phir main baith gaya, Nabi ﷺ ne phir wohi baat farmaayi, maine kaha: mere haq mein kaun gawahi dega? Phir main baith gaya, phir Nabi ﷺ ne wohi baat farmaayi to main khara hua, aap ﷺ ne farmaya: ''AbuQatada! Tumhara kya masla hai?'' Maine aap ko bataya to ek shakhs ne kaha ''Isne sach kaha, aur us ka sazo-saman mere pass hai use meri taraf se raazi kar den. (Aur maal mere pass hi rehne den) Abubakar ne farmaya: Aisa hargiz nahin ho sakta ki Allah ka sher jo Allah aur uske Rasool ki taraf se qatal karta hai, aur aap ﷺ us ka sazo-saman tujhe denge, tab Nabi ﷺ ne farmaya: ''Abubakar ne sach kaha, pas use do.'' Chunancha usne use mujhe de diya, maine usse Banu Salma mein ek bagh khareeda, aur yeh pehla maal tha jo maine halat-e-Islam mein jama kiya tha. Mutfaqul Alayh.
وَعَن أبي قتادةَ قَالَ: خَرَجْنَا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ عَامَ حُنَيْنٍ فَلَمَّا الْتَقَيْنَا كَانَتْ لِلْمُسْلِمِينَ جَوْلَةٌ فَرَأَيْتُ رَجُلًا مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِينَ قَدْ عَلَا رَجُلًا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ فَضَرَبْتُهُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِ عَلَى حَبْلِ عَاتِقِهِ بِالسَّيْفِ فَقَطَعْتُ الدِّرْعَ وَأَقْبَلَ عَلَيَّ فَضَمَّنِي ضَمَّةً وَجَدْتُ مِنْهَا رِيحَ الْمَوْتِ ثُمَّ أَدْرَكَهُ الْمَوْتُ فَأَرْسَلَنِي فَلَحِقْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ فَقُلْتُ: مَا بَالُ النَّاسِ؟ قَالَ: أَمْرُ اللَّهِ ثُمَّ رَجَعُوا وَجَلَسَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقَالَ: «مَنْ قَتَلَ قَتِيلًا لَهُ عَلَيْهِ بَيِّنَةٌ فَلَهُ سَلَبُهُ» فَقُلْتُ: مَنْ يَشْهَدُ لِي؟ ثُمَّ جَلَسْتُ ثُمَّ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِثْلَهُ فَقُمْتُ فَقَالَ: «مَا لَكَ يَا أَبَا قَتَادَةَ؟» فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ: صَدَقَ وَسَلَبُهُ عِنْدِي فَأَرْضِهِ مِنِّي فَقَالَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ: لَا هَا اللَّهِ إِذاً لَا يعمدُ أَسَدٍ مِنْ أُسْدِ اللَّهِ يُقَاتِلُ عَنِ اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِهِ فَيُعْطِيكَ سَلَبَهُ. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «صَدَقَ فأعطه» فأعطانيه فاتبعت بِهِ مَخْرَفًا فِي بَنِي سَلِمَةَ فَإِنَّهُ لَأَوَّلُ مالٍ تأثَّلْتُه فِي الإِسلامِ
