He said he told God’s messenger that he set off trained dogs, and he replied, “Eat what they catch for you.” He asked if that applied even if they killed the game, and he replied that it did. He told him that he shot featherless arrows (mi'rad)* and he replied, “Eat what they pierce, but what they strike with the middle part and kill is beaten to death, so do not eat it.” *Themi'radwas thick in the middle and slender at the ends. It was liable to strike the animal with its middle part. (Bukhari and Muslim.)

عدی بن حاتم ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، میں نے عرض کیا ، اللہ کے رسول ! ہم (شکار کے لیے) سدھائے ہوئے کتے چھوڑتے ہیں ، آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ اس نے جو تمہارے لیے پکڑا ہے کھا لیں ۔‘‘ میں نے عرض کیا ، اگر وہ مار ڈالیں ؟ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ اگرچہ وہ مار ڈالیں ۔‘‘ میں نے عرض کیا : ہم معراض (پروں کے بغیر تیر) پھینکتے ہیں ؟ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ اگر وہ نوک کی طرف سے شکار میں گھس جائے تو کھا لیں اور اگر اسے چوڑائی والے حصے کی طرف سے لگے اور وہ قتل ہو جائے تو اسے مت کھائیں ، کیونکہ وہ چوٹ لگنے سے مرا ہے ۔‘‘ متفق علیہ ۔
Udi bin Hatim bayan karte hain, maine arz kiya, Allah ke Rasool! Hum (shikar ke liye) sadhaye huye kutte chhorte hain, aap ne farmaya: "Is ne jo tumhare liye pakra hai khaa lein." Maine arz kiya, agar woh maar daalein? Aap ne farmaya: "Agarche woh maar daalein." Maine arz kiya: Hum miraz (paron ke baghair teer) phenkte hain? Aap ne farmaya: "Agar woh nok ki taraf se shikar mein ghus jaye to khaa lein aur agar ise chauraayi wale hisse ki taraf se lage aur woh qatl ho jaye to ise mat khaain, kyunki woh chot lagne se mara hai." Mutaffiq alaih.
وَعَنْهُ قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا نُرْسِلُ الْكِلَابَ الْمُعَلَّمَةَ قَالَ: «كُلْ مَا أَمْسَكْنَ عَلَيْكَ» قُلْتُ: وَإِنْ قَتَلْنَ؟ قَالَ: «وَإِنْ قَتَلْنَ» قُلْتُ: إِنَّا نَرْمِي بِالْمِعْرَاضِ. قَالَ: «كُلُّ مَا خزق وَمَا أصَاب بعرضه فَقتله فَإِنَّهُ وقيذ فَلَا تَأْكُل»
