Rafi‘ b. Khadij told that he said, “Messenger of God, we shall meet the enemy tomorrow and we have no knives; may we kill animals with canes?”* He replied, “When God’s name is mentioned you may eat what is killed by anything which causes the blood to flow, except tooth and claw. I shall tell you about it. The tooth is a bone and the claw is the knife of the Abyssinians.” We got some camels and sheep as booty, and when one of the camels ran away a man shot an arrow at it and prevented it from escaping, whereupon God’s messenger said, “Among camels there are some which bolt like wild animals, so when any of them get the better of you do thus to them.” (Bukhari and Muslim.)

رافع بن خدیج ؓ بیان کرتے ہیں ، میں نے عرض کیا ، اللہ کے رسول ! ہم کل دشمن سے ملاقات کرنے والے ہیں ، جبکہ ہمارے پاس چھریاں نہیں ، کیا ہم سر کنڈے کے ساتھ ذبح کر لیں ؟ آپ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ جو خون بہا دے اور جس پر اللہ کا نام لیا جائے اسے کھاؤ ، (جبکہ) دانت اور ناخن کے ساتھ ذبح کرنا درست نہیں ، اور میں تمہیں اس کے متعلق تفصیلا بتاتا ہوں دانت ہڈی ہے ، اور رہا ناخن تو وہ حبشیوں کی چھریاں ہیں ۔‘‘ (کفار پر حملہ کرنے کے بعد) ہم کو اونٹ اور بکریاں ملیں ، ان میں سے ایک اونٹ بھاگ کھڑا ہوا تو ایک آدمی نے اس پر ایک تیر چلایا اور اسے روک لیا ، اس پر رسول اللہ ﷺ نے فرمایا :’’ ان جانوروں میں بھی وحشی جانوروں کی طرح بھاگنے والے ہوتے ہیں ، ان میں سے جو بے قابو ہو جائے تو تم اس کے ساتھ اسی طرح کیا کرو ۔‘‘ متفق علیہ ۔
Rafi bin Khadeej bayan karte hain, maine arz kiya, Allah ke Rasool! hum kal dushman se mulakat karne wale hain, jabke hamare paas chhuriyan nahin, kya hum sar kande ke saath zibah kar len? Aap ne farmaya: ''Jo khoon baha de aur jis par Allah ka naam liya jaye use khao, (jabke) daant aur nakhun ke saath zibah karna durust nahin, aur main tumhen iske mutalliq tafseelan batata hun daant haddi hai, aur raha nakhun to woh Habshiyon ki chhuriyan hain.'' (Kuffar par hamla karne ke baad) hum ko unt aur bakriyan mili, in mein se ek unt bhaag khara hua to ek aadmi ne is par ek teer chalaya aur ise rok liya, is par Rasool Allah ne farmaya: ''In janwaron mein bhi wahshi janwaron ki tarah bhaagne wale hote hain, in mein se jo beqaboo ho jaye to tum iske saath isi tarah kya karo.'' Muttafiq alaih.
وَعَن رَافع بن خديج قَالَ: قُلْتُ: يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنَّا لَاقُوا الْعَدُوَّ غَدًا وَلَيْسَتْ مَعَنَا مُدًى أَفَنَذْبَحُ بِالْقَصَبِ؟ قَالَ: مَا أَنْهَرَ الدَّمَ وَذُكِرَ اسْمُ اللَّهِ فَكُلْ لَيْسَ السِّنَّ وَالظُّفُرَ وَسَأُحَدِّثُكَ عَنْهُ: أَمَّا السِّنُّ فَعَظْمٌ وَأَمَّا الظُّفُرُ فَمُدَى الْحَبَشِ وَأَصَبْنَا نَهْبَ إِبِلٍ وَغَنَمٍ فَنَدَّ مِنْهَا بِعِيرٌ فَرَمَاهُ رَجُلٌ بِسَهْمٍ فَحَبَسَهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «إِنَّ لِهَذِهِ الْإِبِلِ أَوَابِدَ كَأَوَابِدِ الْوَحْشِ فَإِذَا غَلَبَكُمْ مِنْهَا شَيْءٌ فَافْعَلُوا بِهِ هَكَذَا»
